LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- Former gridiron great O.J. Simpson was sentenced Friday to at least 15 years in prison for his role in an armed confrontation with sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel in 2007.
O.J. Simpson told the judge Friday that he was sorry for what he did but didn't think it was wrong.
O.J. Simpson told the judge Friday that he was sorry for what he did but didn't think it was wrong.
He must serve at least nine years before he can be considered for parole.
Grimacing, Simpson was escorted from the courtroom in shackles.
The sentence was imposed after Simpson, his voice shaking, told Judge Jackie Glass that he was sorry for his actions but believed that he did nothing wrong.
Glass brushed his apology aside.
"Earlier in this case, at a bail hearing, I said to Mr. Simpson, I didn't know if he was arrogant, ignorant or both," Glass said. "During the trial and through this proceeding, I got the answer, and it was both."
She stressed that the sentence was not "payback for anything else," apparently referring to Simpson's acquittal 13 years ago in the slayings of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman.
Defense attorneys said Glass' sentence was appropriate.
Don't Miss
* Possible sentences: 6 years, 18 years, life
* Jury: O.J.'s guilty

"It could have been a lot worse," Yale Galanter said, noting that Simpson and co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart both could have been sentenced to life in prison. Instead, the maximum time Simpson can spend behind bars is 33 years.
czarofzar 12-05-2008, 07:06 PM that all?
czarofzar 12-05-2008, 08:14 PM 15 years will fix him you think ark?

Queen 12-05-2008, 08:37 PM I'm glad you've been deemed the resident bleeding heart so I don't have to be

I for one will be glad that this guy will probably die in prison. The fact that he probably will never be in the news again, other than a failed appeal or his obituary will be fine by me.
I'm glad you've been deemed the resident bleeding heart so I don't have to be
Yeah, but I think that I'm better at hurting Vert's feelings than you are :P

That poll is exhibit A for the pitfalls of democracy.
Misty Rayne 12-06-2008, 12:22 AM so just a question, do you guys think he got what he deserved for what he did this time or what he was "alledged" to have done 13 years ago?
czarofzar 12-06-2008, 05:25 AM his character is a mess. he needs to be flushed into the toilet. along with ark and queen imo.

I think its just payback for what he "supposedly" did. But then again it looks like life sentencing is the max that he could have received???

Misty Rayne 12-06-2008, 03:06 PM i didn't mean to offend anyone by my question, it's just everything i have heard from this case comes back to 13 years ago and i can't help but feel that everyone see's it as "payback" especially when they keep getting nicole and ron's family into it when they have nothing to do with this case
wotnartd 12-06-2008, 03:13 PM Pretty shitty payback, if you ask me. He should have gotten life.
skydivr7673 12-07-2008, 10:21 PM I guess I can see the payback scenario but I dont believe that happened here....the guy took part in what basically amounts to an armed robbery and unlawfully detaining people. anytime a firearm is involved in a crime, that becomes a federal felony offense. it isnt like the guy was caught jaywalking and they gave him 15 years for it--this was a real crime, and a serious one too, apparently. he reportedly told his friends to bring their guns to the party...so he was expecting trouble and was preparing to handle whatever trouble came along. sorry, but guns arent for getting stolen football collectibles back--they are for protecting your life, your family, and your home.

no, you asked a perfectly good question....
as for the goldman family, chalk that up to the media always fishing for a story, even if it means bugging the hell out of a family that suffered more than enough that they earned the right to be left alone now.
