Vert8813B 06-07-2007, 12:03 PM I'm coming here after asking on the VWVortex Health and Fitness forum. People there tend to be idiots but hey, they own euros and I did too.
Ok so lemme make this as basic as possible...
-I am about to turn 21
-I am 5'6-5'7
-I weigh 220 lbs
-I want to be a New York State Trooper (help me out and I will fix your tickets! )
-I smoke cigarettes (and I know most will say to quit but I think I can get in shape without it)
-I binge drink on the weekends (a 12 pack friday, saturday and like 4-6 on sunday. I think I will switch to liquor and coke zero or something so I can still get drunk and not consume as many calories)
-New York State Trooper written test is coming up in January-February 2008. Pending I do well, the physical portion could be shortly thereafter. You need to be able to run a 1.5 Miles in 12:18 (10 something after the academy) Do about 33 Push ups in a single effort and like 40 Sit Ups in a minute
-I need to get into decent to good shape by January 2008.
What I ask from you...
-Dieting Ideas
-Supplement Ideas
-Prayers
-Any other help you can provide.
I thank you in advance!
This was my original post on VWVortex. I started exercising Tuesday and hit the treadmil and tried to follow the training guidelines on the State Police website. Start off with a 2 mile walk in 32 minutes it says and do some situps and push ups. I did this and felt pretty good. I got some MuscleTech Hydroxycut and it seems to be helping. I am consuming a gallon or more of water a day. I need to be 18.9% body fat by the time of the physical test.
Please don't be stupid like VW owners or else I may have to kill myself.

Quit binge drinking.
And neither of those are for your getting into shape for this test, it's about saving your fuckin' life. You are doing two of the most dangerous things you can, especially for you being about 60 pounds overweight.
As far as getting up your cardio and strength quickly, I have one word for you: SWIM. Go join a gym or a YMCA that has a pool, and swim 3 or 4 times a week. Twice a week, swim straight laps. The other times you go, work on timed stuff, you know, 10 sets of 100 yards, give yourself (at first) 3 minutes to swim and rest before you start the next set. (When I was swimming competitively, we would do them on the 1:05 mark... 1 minute, 5 seconds to swim 100 yards, rest a bit, then swim another 100 yards in 1:05). That will build strength, endurance, and slim you down quickly.
However, all the exercising in the world won't do anything for you if you don't modify your diet. Alcohol is a sugar, which means it's a carbohydrate, which means that if you keep binge drinking on the weekends, everything you do during the week is for nothing. I knew a girl who KILLED herself in the gym daily, but would eat a gallon of ice cream every weekend... Then, she wondered why her body would never change. I don't know why you think switching to "Coke Zero" would do anything... Please tell me you aren't one of those people who think alcohol is calorie free.
Frankly, if you aren't willing to give up the smoking and drinking to accomplish your goal, you don't have the maturity to be a State Trooper, and they wouldn't want someone with that kind of judgment, anyway.
rodney87 06-09-2007, 03:14 PM The sit ups shouldn't be a problem, its not that many to do in a min. One trick I learned to get more push ups is this: Just before you go to bed at night do as many pushups as you can, till the point of musle failure. Then go to sleep. Do that every night and You'd be surprised at how fast you can up your count.
See... they let any slob dumbshit become a cop...
Comforting... if you fail at life... you can always become a cop.
czarofzar 06-09-2007, 04:04 PM yes, cops are total fags.

He's asking about dropping his weight.
How in the WORLD is quitting smoking going to help with that? Thats a way to GAIN weight.

Because smoking destroys your cardio, which is going to ruin him on the push-up, sit-up, and run test, as well as the fact that cardio is what burns fat.
You're assuming that if he quits smoking, he's going to eat to replace it. This guy needs to completely change his lifestyle, or whatever he loses, he will gain and then some. The same thing happened to a bunch of guys I was in boot camp with: 3 months of boot got them slimmed down (of course, they had to run with Chub Club), but as soon as we got out and the exercise wasn't mandatory, they got fatter than they were. Without exception, they were all smokers.

Nope. But it is a possibility.
I'm not assuming anything, smoking raises your metabolism.

That wasn't debated :P
I was saying, he wanted to loose weight, and quitting smoking was recommended, I wanted to refute that :P
Now, for health and stamina, sure, quit smoking, but not to loose weight :P
