I got bored and installed DOS 6.22 to a vmachine on my Mac.
Found dosgames.com and dosgamesarchive.com, proceeded to download classics like Prince of Persia, Commander Keen, a Donkey Kong clone, Tetris, Super Worms, PacMan, Mario, and a few others. Stixworld is an interesting game where you play a stick figure trying to save the notebook you live in from the approaching recycling truck.

This shit rocks. These games are all under 1MB, use just a few KB of RAM, have VGA-quality graphics and 8-bit SoundBlaster audio.

I love the DOS shot... "upload it to a BBS", and the names like "Blast and Robot Chase".

It was the best although my niece gave me the most fucked up look when she saw it. Kids theses days, if it doesn't have a million colors and a shit load of eye candy then they think it sucks.:dunno: I still play my original tetris that came with the brick sometimes when I need a quick fix.

I top all yall with my Super Pong and Atari Pinball.

They have built in speakers that beep.

Even my 2600 and Colecovision don't sport that kind of bling.

yea but i bet not even half of you remember playing the Atari Lynx of Phillips CD-I

ComradeGiant
12-30-2005, 12:48 AM
I never bothered with either of those.

The Lynx ate batteries worse than the Game Gear, and the CD-I had no games.

I'd still like to get my hands one both of them though...

Played all the Sega Genesis games, game gear games, could be a TV, and you could hack it for MP3s and other things today.

I had a Rio 500, bought it in '99. 64MB internal, I had a 32MB smartmedia for it. Together I could fit about 2hrs of music on the thing. Then I got my iPod, april '03.

3g Ipod...
I got a 2nd-gen iPod. 20GB, biggest they had. About two weeks later they released the 3g and photo, up to 60GB. Pissed me off.

One of those :D

I probably still have that cable somewhere. I know where it was before my parents moved, but I'd have to look long and hard to find it now...

That thing was great. I did like the interface, and it was one of the few players at the time that let you put MP3s in separate folders, so you could play either all files or all files in a folder.

I also have a 10 year old CD player that can also read MP3 CDs and individual folders.

Now that's something I need to start using every day again. Since I obviously despise the price/quality/software of modern MP3 players.

The my head unit in my car can read them as well, and so can my iPaq, which was the same price as some mp3 players. I doubt i'll ever buy one. WTF do I need with a new age walkman?:dunno:

My sister's got my first portable CD player. Ancient Sony, probably 12 years old now. Still works though! Skip-protection memory is shot, so it skips more with the skip protection than without it. No MP3 support, just audio CDs.

A yellow box..

The words that say magnavox...

And Odyssey 500...

FIRST HOME GAME CONSOLE EVAR!

If only I still had a black and white TV to play it on. Or adapters for modern tvs.

omg i have a 40second anti skip lol...but i dont get it...wtfs the difference?

cool3865
12-31-2005, 07:32 PM
all the anti-skip is that the laser reads ahead for how ever many secs you put it on, that way when you shake the cd it wont skip, (the data is in a memory for that many secs ahead)......so the more data you have in that memory (the longer the anti-skip is in secs) the more you can shake the cd player and the less it will skip.

Animal
12-31-2005, 08:10 PM
yeah.... duh.... umm, except if the memory is shot, it buffers and skips when reading that buffer.

HD's have this, it's called "cache". iPods and other disk-based players do this as well.
