(Omaha, NE) - A fishing enthusiast snagged an enormous catfish from the Missouri River this week.
Mike Arndt was fishing with his father when he caught a 57-pound, 47-inch flathead catfish.
Arndt says he was using a 20-pound test line baited with a four-inch goldfish at the time of the catch.
When asked what he planned to do with the fish, Arndt replied, "Throw him in some grease."

Thats a big fish, but that is not that uncommon. I'd bet a dozen of thows show up in the stl area each year. A 57lbs channel cat would be more impressive.

An 18-foot sturgeon would be more impressive. The Indians and early settlers used to hook them and then use horses to pull them up onto the bank. Even a smaller sturgeon (6 feet or less) can put up a fight for an hour or more. After cutting all of the meat off, they'll still be kicking several hours later because their nervous systems are so damned primitive, just like big goldfish. :bigthumb:
~20 years ago we were cruising up a slough off the Wishkah river in a 21-foot Reinell when what I originally thought was a log at the side of the river suddenly slid forward and submerged... Considering that there aren't any crocodiles in the Wishkah, and compared to the size of the boat, I'd bet it was a sturgeon 16 feet long or longer. BIG motherfucker. HUGE. With big, nasty, sharp, pointy teeth. :)

Those things are creepy. A few July 4th's ago I was on my buddy's boat on Cayuga Lake at around midnight. A few of us were drinking beers and what not so we just tossed an anchor in the middle of the lake. I happened to look off the right side of the boat and see something almost as big as the 20 foot boat, and I originally thought it was a log as well. That's until the fucking thing started swimming. I damn near shit myself, I knew about Sturgeon and I knew they were big, but this thing was the size of a damn shark.
