BATMAN
02-20-2006, 11:05 AM
A 62-year-old Redding woman gave birth over the weekend to a healthy six-pound, nine-ounce baby boy, becoming one of the oldest women in the world to successfully bear a child. The newborn is the 12th child of Janise Wulf, who's also a grandmother of 20 and great-grandmother of three.

Family members say the delivery by Caesarean section went smoothly, despite earlier health concerns because of her diabetes. Wulf was impregnated through in vitro fertilization.

She and her third husband, Scott, named the red-haired boy, Adam Charles Wulf. He follows just three-and-a-half years behind his older brother, Ian.

While Wulf isn't the oldest on record, today's delivery puts her among only a handful of senior-aged mothers.

The oldest woman on record to give birth is a 66-year-old Romanian woman who had a Caesarean section January 15th, 2005.
