cruise was fun, although it was cursed.

several cars experienced some problems...

first off, at the beginning of the cruise, a white FD slammed into a sign pretty hard, beating up the passenger side door bad. Then, a TT z screwed up something enginewise, i wasnt sure what it was but it was out of commision. Next, an 86 rx7 had a close call almost going off the mtn. Seroiusly, a couple more feet and he would have been a goner. He's lucky. Then my miata was involved in a wreck on i-26, and then HTM member Derek with the white miata hit a tree, and then i believe 2 s2k's had incidents.

Did the white FD go home after she hit a sign? Derek how did he hit a tree? Too fast?

the white FD did go home after she hit a sign, but her bf or husband (i didnt know if they were married or not) drove it home and she rode with someone else i believe.

not sure how derek hit a tree, probably decreasing radius turn or something. Keep in mind these are roads most of us had never driven

Yea it was a doozy of a turn. I was first in line and when i went around it i said to myself "gez i hope noone screws up there"... lol sure enough i hear yelling on the 2-way :) It was a decreasing radius turn preceded by a fairly long straightaway so u had some good speed going into the turn.

i would have liked to have made it there, but i cant drive for too long yet. cody, the highlight after you left i guess would be that high/drunk guy showing up.

yeah and his brother was doing 190 through a turn and a dog ran into the side of the car or something...

hmm..didnt sound like much of a cruise to me...i knew something was gonna happen, all these cars going to curvy roads...

how bout "mountain run" or "mountain race"...

everyone wants to talk about how fun curves are and how boring drag racing is....and they usually turn out to be the ones who cant drive or the ones who wreck...

i would feel totally stupid if i messed up my car going fast around curves in a mountain and wrecked or whatever....

serves ya right, i think?

opinions, opinions, opinions...

yea, i'd feel stupid...but it'd be my fault. if you don't know the limits of your car, don't go. If you dont' feel you, as a driver, are up to it....don't go. it's as simple as that.

preludedude

wouldnt call it "limits of car" or "being up to it"...

i think it all comes back to safety...

i guess that guy going over the cliff in an eclipse or something taught nobody anything...

dangerous? very much so...

maybe i am just a safe driver..

...with common sense and a car with no body damage...

ok so i guess we should no longer drive up in the mountains ever again?

Event went very very well except for 276 being blocked. You wreck, its usually your own fault. Just have to apply a bit more concentration and skill when you ride in the mtns. If you can't handle it then ride with the minivans that hold up the pack :)

wrecks happen to the best drivers in the world. driving on the edge is dangerous in any environment.

Mark isnt just talking out of his ass. He was the slowest one on the axis mountain cruise. :D I think the axis mountain cruise was about the perfect pace for me. Any faster and I wouldnt have been able to enjoy the scenery and such. We also had some semi-spirited driving. I dont think anyone had any problems at all but it really was a cruise and nothing more. Whenever you go on a new road and push it hard youre bound to be in for surprises. Thats why you "walk the course" your first time. I for one am not very good at guessing whats around the next turn....but hell maybe thats part of the thrill

i personally find it hard to drive normally in the mountains

HighTachPres
06-23-2003, 11:42 AM
i simply drive at a pace that i know i can prevent a surprise if one comes my way

I never go fast on roads I am unfamiliar with.

mountain cruises are more fun than drag racing due to that level of danger. You dont have the potential to drive 500 ft. off a mountain in drag racing . . .

too much danger involved...maybe not just for me, but for my car...i would hate to mess up my car, i love my car...yall must drive POS's if you want your car to possibly go over a mountain..

we don't want it...we just want to get as close as we can w/o going to that point. Same reason people skydive, bungee jump, etc. it's an adrenelin rush.

edit: not to mention the looks of absolute horror coming from passengers
