MX7 - 500ish hp when its done - tons of work - abundant parts
Porsche 928 - 500ish hp when finished - little work - expensive parts
I'd REALLY like a tank...but I couldnt find one and although the 3000GT was a great substitute, it lacked the turret.

01-27-2002, 05:40 PM As most of you know, the mx6 is no more. *Now I have to decide on a new car. *I was pretty set on an RX7 Turbo II with the MX6 race engine but it would be a lot easier to go with something fast stock, possibly V6 or V8. *That brings up another option...The Porsche 928. *It has a 360 V8 0-60 in 5ish seconds stock. *1/4 in 14. *I think a turbo would suit the car well but Ive heard some stuff about the engines being weak...I'd hate to have to force an insanely large engine in there after I blew one. *Just wanted everyone's opions. BlueCalx 01-27-2002, 08:46 PM The 928 has a 302 v8 dude.. Far as I know, anyway. My dad had an '81 928 S. Modified by Franz Blam Racing in Atlanta Ga. I got some pictures of it if you ever wanna see 'em. <img src="http://www.spartanburgracing.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Rob 01-27-2002, 09:35 PM nuh uh... 360 V8 !!! isnt that great? 01-30-2002, 06:32 PM I'd say a porsche 928, just remember to look for the S4 or S, they have a stronger motor stock. *For general info on the motors the 92-95 928 is a 360, the 85-91's were 303s, pre 84 base models were smaller with less horsepower, and in 85 the US model 928 S came with a DOHC and 288hp, in 1980 came fuel injection. Porsche made a 928, 928 S, 928 S4, 928gt, and a 928GTS (euro only...emmissions). Significant body changes in 87, other than that no major body changes in the entire production. Three problems with 928s 1) the market for 928s went bad, making demand for aftermarket parts go down, which means less competition between manufacturers and that means higher prices for parts. 2) the market also going bad means cheaper prices for the car (which actually is good for you)BUT people will buy the car and take car of it like a cheap car, not as an expensive car. Which if you're not careful you could buy a car that might give out on you as soon as you buy it. 3) The timing belt is a bitch. You can get some serious power from a 928, much more than 500hp if you wanted. *Talk to Sean Bartsch from Broome, he drives a 944 turbo, he can tell you whatever you want to know about porsches. www.928intl.com 01-30-2002, 07:36 PM Thanks for the help, I appreciate it a lot...lol, I wanted to race that guy...too bad 91lx 01-30-2002, 08:49 PM Have you found a 93-95 for less than $29,900 Chris? 01-30-2002, 09:22 PM yup 91lx 01-31-2002, 05:56 AM Buy it then just for a daily driver and still build the MX. |
