If Hell is eternal, searing pain, ask yourself where the ability to feel pain comes from. It sure wasn't from Satan. God designed the human body/soul/mind to be receptive to pain and in a way, Hell was designed to accommodate such reception.

I understand the temptation to place the consquences of our actions on ourselves, to say that those who deny God get what they deserve, but the reality is that those who deny God generally deny His existence. This would mean eternal nothingness after death, not a pit of torment.
