I recently bought a TII (2 weeks ago). I haven't registered/insured the car just yet (have to sell my other one first as I don't want to be paying insurance on 2 cars). I have the title and it has on the back:
"section 2113 of the vehicle and traffic law requires that application for a title must be made within 30 days of transfer"
Does that mean I have to transfer this over (get myself to the DMV) within 30 days?
Sorry, I am not too good with paper work!
It varies by state, if title is from the state you're in then that's the law. That is the law here, but they don't give a shit... however whoevers name it's in, pays the taxes on it. If your dmv requires a bill of sale (ours insist on it, but if you argue, it isnt a MUST)then they probably enforce it... when it comes down to it though, you have the car... you have the title... they'll probably register anyway.

I think I filed mine a month late. You just pay a $30 late fee in CA.

In WI it doesn't matter
You should have told them to not but a date on the title when they signed it

in sc your insurance has to cover you and you can wait 44 days and go to the dmv on the 45th and be fine.

my question to u is when u bought it and everything was signed, were they also dated at that time? when i buy cars, i just have them sign but not date them that way the DMV doesn't know when it was bought. the date, if really needed, can be put in later. when i bought my 808, it was quite awhile before it was registered. they wanted to charge me all this extra money but i told them that it wasn't running when i got it and had to rebuild the engine and i couldn't see registering and insuring a car i couldn't drive. so i didn't have to pay all those fees.

Nc has a late Fee of a few bucks depending on the value of the car.

somewhat related
I registered my snowmobile today, the DMV has nothing to do with it, all I had to do was fill out a form. No need for proof of purchase or previous registration, just the serial number.

Just take it over and register as Non-Operational Vehicle.......it may be as High as......(wait for it).........$12bux!
At least this way it is all legit, and if you are driving it you may have a chance with the cop. A car that has not been registered in months has no chance....even during a Test drive after you put on some part.

I am def not driving it with no plates and no registration ;) In NY (or anywhere else I guess?) you need proof of insurance to register a car. So I have to insure this car THEN get all that info over to the DMV and register it. I could insure it now, but I still have my other on the road and don't want to be paying to insure 2 FC's.
I did write the date on the bill of sale and on the back of the title (d'oh!). If worse comes to worse I'll pay some late fee.
EDIT:
Just checked the NYS dmv website. Looks like I can register this car ONLINE without any type of crap/paper work. Oops no nm I can only fill out forms, print them THEN goto the dmv. BAH!
Thanks for the help!
