Some people are allergic to antivinien(sp?) the antivenom and cant use it or get to the dr. too late after the tissue starts to break down. this can happen in a few hours and be very damaging and painfull.

One of my buddies was bitten on the hand as a toddler by a copperhead. He has a pretty wild scar up the top of his forearm. Usually adults don't even go tot he hospital for a copperhead bite.

That's what hemotoxins do when untreated; break down tissue. Neurotoxins affect the nervous system and are more dangerous. No snake's venome fits precisely into one category or the other, but rattlesnake venom (as shown) is predominantly a hemotoxin and a cobra's venom is predominantly a neurotoxin, for example.

Damage depends on the size and type of snake, the amount of venom that was injected, the mass of the victim, and how quickly antivenin (if it exists) was administered. Big rattlesnake + 13 year old boy + 4 hour helicopter ride = rotten arm. :D
