bx7 02-05-2008, 06:11 AM If you've ever been to church or watched a TV preacher, you've probably heard the word "Redemption". What does it mean? What's the context? Does anyone know? Who is the redeemer? What is redeemed? Tell me what you know. bx7 02-05-2008, 10:19 AM I Corinthians 6 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. I Corinthians 7 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called. Let's get OT on this. What's redemption mean in the sense of the 13th century (BC) prophet who wrote the Torah. I'll give you a hint his name is Moses. What's he mean by redemption? What's it mean in his culture? Is Redemption in the NT pointing to something from the OT? What could this be? bx7 02-06-2008, 06:53 AM What I'm moving towards is the loss Adam suffered in the Garden when he gave up tenant possession of the Earth to Satan as he rebelled against God. A very significant aspect of the work of Christ is his role of kinsmen redeemer of a lost race who's loss is recorded in Genesis and recovered in Revelation (chapter 5). Christ, as kinsmen redeemer, is the one who pays the price for the loss and recovers what was lost in the Garden. I suggest without proof, that this is what Job was talking about when he said "I know my redeemer lives". Another thought on the redemption work is tied to the idea that the atonement paid the penalty for sin, but as I am learning, this was not a doctrine from the beginning. To me, too many unexplained words are thrown about sermons these days without a proper explanation. People nod their heads in agreement but they typically do not fully understand the topics discussed. czarofzar 02-06-2008, 09:40 AM Psalm 130:7, 8. |
