So after blowing through $80 worth of .30-06 (192 rd) the other day with my garand, and getting a real sore shoulder out of it (bench shooting) I decided to go the .22 route so that i can go shooting all the time without breaking the bank.

The same amount of ammo would cost me ~$3.40. Much better.

So i've been reading through lots of threads about the three most popular .22 rifles, in order, the Marlin 60, the Ruger 10/22, and the Remington 597. I ruled out the Ruger because just about EVERYONE says that the other two will shoot circles around it unless you start modding it. I'm not interested in modding the rifle aside from mounting a scope and maybe a higher cap magazine, therefore the 10/22 doesn't tickle my fancy.

So I narrowed it down to the 60 and 597. I wanna hear your thoughts. They're both pretty great rifles and both about the same price, so that's what's making this a tough decision.

I have a 10/22 and a Model 60. Both are great but the 60 shoots a little better.
