I've shaved mine with a razor more than once.... didn't grow back thicker... no "sticking together"... no problems at all... just hard as hell to do.

The red bumps are caused by the corners of your now square-ended hairs catching on the edges of the hole in your skin as it re-emerges, irritating the skin. A bit of oil lubes it as it grows back to skin level within a few hours, then the hard corners on the end of the hair are worn away over the next day or two.
