czarofzar 08-06-2008, 10:05 PM A question. Do you know if hospitals charges their patients the blood they consume? The same blood that is donated country wide? Right, today you're going to be an attorney, yesterday it was a cop, tomorrow it will probably be a firefighter. I have a friend like you, he sleeps in his aunt's basement. As for being spoiled, how does an inheritance, that is likely 25 years away, make one spoiled? Are you spoiled before you win the lottery? No but it would probably pay off more in the long run, rather than entering an already overly saturated market without a top tier degree. They work in Civil Rights and make around the 40k mark but love their work. I know a bunch of people with Masters degrees as lucrative as yours who do Social Work making 30k a year. What the fuck is your point? 2ndGen.Rocket 08-12-2008, 06:13 PM My point is to do a little research and learn what you are talking about before you think you are going to get a law degree and make $160k a year. Vert8813B 08-12-2008, 06:58 PM My point is to do a little research and learn what you are talking about before you think you are going to get a law degree and make $160k a year. I've already done the research. Based upon my GPA and my potential LSAT scores (I've only taken practice ones so far and scored consistently between 168 and 172. We'll see how I do come October.), it would give me the ability to go to one of the top schools. The median income of the schools I am collectively looking for is actually 160k. Granted, that's the median and it's not a universal. HOWEVER, when you potentially look in to the schools I want to go to, factor the concentration I would like to study in my third and final year, that number inflates quite a bit. P.C.s as opposed to LLPs from the schools I am looking into have a median salary of well over 200k with the low figure only being 80k (as opposed to 30-40k for the overall graduating law body these statistics factor in [2006]) with the high figure being "In excess of one million dollars." That enough research for you or you need more? I got 14 links I can post as well as about 96 pages I can scan. :) 2ndGen.Rocket 08-12-2008, 07:02 PM Yeah, talk to some people who are in school currently, and who just graduated. Do you have actual placement rates for the schools that you are looking at? A lot of people graduate law school and don't actually end up with jobs. Many schools choose to instead report starting salary figures because that looks better. It's not a sure bet, that's all I'm telling you. It helps to know people and have connections going in so you have an easier time getting an internship and eventually a job. Law, moreso than even banking, is a lot of glad-handing and who knows who games. Vert8813B 08-12-2008, 07:18 PM Yeah, talk to some people who are in school currently, and who just graduated. It helps to know people and have connections going in so you have an easier time getting an internship and eventually a job. Law, moreso than even banking, is a lot of glad-handing and who knows who games. Absolutely agree with everything said. They do have placement rates. Some of the schools have low (by my own standards) rates upon graduation (60-70%) but those schools have rates in the 90+% 6 months after graduation. The schools I am looking at potentially have pretty high employment rates in the private industry. Lower tier schools around here like Albany School of Law @ Union College have very high BAR passage rates and very high placement in the government sector (which doesn't pay incredibly well). $100T2 08-19-2008, 08:41 AM The Red Cross is also running the biggest scam on the planet. They get their product DONATED, collected by VOLUNTEERS, and then charge a ridiculous premium for it. I wish I had thought of something that sheisty. The reason they do that is because they have to pay for operating costs. The Red Cross is the blood bank reference lab for 99% of hospitals. When a unit of blood is collected, it has to be tested for type and RH, then tested for hepatitis and HIV. After that, it's broken down into products: Platelets, packed red blood cells, FFP, cryoprecipitate. Then, suppose you get somebody who has a shitload of antibodies that needs transfusion: You send their blood to be crossmatched by the ARC, and sometimes they need to test four or five hundred units of blood to find two that are compatible. All this needs to be done by lab people like me. That $500 a unit pays to be able to do all that stuff. It's not like it just goes into a bag, and they hand it out to hospitals. $100T2 08-19-2008, 08:42 AM Thanks, Tom Clancy wrote the book based off of SEAL Team 6. The premise is the same (aside from Rainbow being NATO, whereas what I went for is strictly American). I'm not really sure why you're getting your panties in such a wad over this... it was simply an example which just about EVERYBODY will recognize. Doesn't matter though, since I wasn't picked up (their shrink had concerns about me, hehe) for the team. The workouts were fucking KILLER though!! I haven't hurt that badly (limping almost daily) in years. I loved it! |
