$100T2 11-01-2005, 07:09 AM I used to love that Robotech show when I was a kid... And I've thought about getting it on DVD so my little boy can watch it when he's older, but some woman I worked with claimed that it was just a watered down version of Macross... Her husband is an anime dork, and supposedly knows everything about it. Is that true? DarkAngelKamui 11-01-2005, 07:46 AM I used to love that Robotech show when I was a kid... And I've thought about getting it on DVD so my little boy can watch it when he's older, but some woman I worked with claimed that it was just a watered down version of Macross... Her husband is an anime dork, and supposedly knows everything about it. Is that true? Good choice in series, my friend.... :D Robotech actually happens to be one of the very series that got me hooked on anime, the second being Voltron (aka Go Lion).... Yeah, it IS the same thing as Macross, but she's right about it being watered down... The original aired series in america had a few things cut out of it to save budget and to be deemed "more appropriate"... However, I think they've released many a "Perfect Collection" that can be found on both VHS and DVD which carry the original episodes unedited and subtitled... I think one company name is AnimEigo that produced a set, but I hear it's been long out of print and hard to get outside of Ebay.... Also, Robotech here covers three sagas while Macross is only the season 1 series (Ep 1-36).... The others that got covered and grouped together in the Robotech series were the less popular Southern Cross Saga and the Mospeada Saga..... There's also quite a few movies that you should look into that were based off the Macross Saga (Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Macross Plus, and Macross II are the only three I watch again and again), but to keep on topic, I think all the differences are listed well enough here: http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Dojo/9093/diff_sim.html DarkAngelKamui 11-01-2005, 07:52 AM Oh yeah, since I feel like it, here's the list of Macross Releases: Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1982) Television Series - 36 Episodes Macross: Do You Remember Love? (1984) Film Macross: Flashback 2012 (1986) OAV - 1 Episode Super Dimension Fortress Macross II (1992) OAV - 6 Episodes Macross Plus (1994) OAV - 4 Episodes Macross 7 (1994) Television Series - 49 Episodes Macross 7 Encore (1995) OAV - 3 Episodes Macross 7: The Galaxy Is Calling Me (1995) Film Macross Plus: Movie Edition (1995) Film Macross Dynamite 7 (1997) OAV - 4 Episodes Macross Zero (2003) OAV - 5 Episodes $100T2 11-01-2005, 08:55 AM Yeah, Robotech was cool because it was the first cartoon I had seen where characters actually got killed. aznpoopy 11-01-2005, 10:05 PM macross is my favorite anime =ever= robotech: the macross saga is the original macross some plot points are different, and the ending is changed (the bridge crew does not die, for instance). in macross protoculture is not a fuel. it is an ancient spacefaring civilization. there are no invid or robotech masters in the macross chronology. there is no 'robotechnology' in macross. alien technology is generally referred to as overtechnology. the robotech masters and the invid invasion are not part of macross. they were integrated into the robotech tv show to make it a full length tv series. robotech was thus a smorgasboard of three UNRELATED anime: 1) Macross 2) Southern Cross 3) Mospeada after the macross saga, macross and robotech storylines diverge completely. if you are a robotech fan, they are releasing some new direct to video robotech shows that pick up where robotech left off 20 years ago. its called robotech: the shadow chronicles. its not really watered down; the anime is almost exactly the same in general. the only thing they cut was probably the nudey lin minmei shower scene. damnitsfrancis 11-29-2005, 05:53 AM i liked macross 7. fighting aliens with rock music. how cool is that? onikuma 08-23-2006, 03:38 PM Saw a great deal on the whole series on DVD at Fry's for $99. Was broke at the time, I cry now ^___^; Drifter757 09-01-2006, 03:09 AM I've got all the books :) DarkAngelKamui 09-01-2006, 07:36 AM I've got all the books :) Where'd you get them from?
