Animal 07-16-2006, 12:52 AM dear $DIETY there's a lot of stuff in that engine compartment. aznpoopy 07-16-2006, 01:02 AM its called a velocity stack somehow the shape/smoothless gets a little more air in than normal... supposedly Tofuball 07-16-2006, 01:23 AM Supposedly? It's a fact, and the curvature of the end prevents (lessens) air cavitation :) aznpoopy 07-16-2006, 02:17 AM i have never owned one or researched the physics of one hence "supposedly" :P Cosby 07-16-2006, 02:56 AM I use a 4" K&N heck yeah! Supper 07-16-2006, 08:53 AM K&N = junk. Tofuball 07-16-2006, 09:49 AM K&N = junk. + .5 aznpoopy 07-16-2006, 10:11 AM .5? lol why is k&n junk supper? Say No To Pistons 07-16-2006, 11:12 AM because he uses Ebay filters! rx-7_Z06 07-19-2006, 01:44 PM that is by far one of the ugliest engine bays I have seen in a long time. Cosby 07-19-2006, 02:01 PM first off find me another 4" filter. Second why is it junk? MazdaTed 07-19-2006, 02:14 PM first off find me another 4" filter. Second why is it junk? Anything that flows air better will allow more dirt to flow better also. I dont use any thing but paper filters (I even have one fitted to the RB intake on my miata), I just dont think that the Possibility of less filtration is worth 1/2 a HP. Supper 07-19-2006, 07:52 PM Anything that flows air better will allow more dirt to flow better also. :werd: If you are planning on using the K&N in your Jeep C0sborne, you might as well start scheduling your first engine rebuild right now. They might be allright for street use and limited offroad, but by their very construction they are complete and utter shit for any offroading of substance. The pores in the foam they use are far too big to trap any of the fine dust particulate you would experience in continued offroad service, especially if you encounter any kind of silt or ultra fine dust. And if you over oil to compensate for the downfall of the foam structure, you complete ruin any benefits you might have had in the first place. Oil restricts the air flow far more then the smaller pores in other filters. That is why I run a dual stage foam filter. I prefer UNI (http://www.unifilter.com/) (though I don't think they make filters for anything other then bikes) because of their dual layer construction. One layer is very porous, equivalent to a K&N, but the other layer isn't nearly as porous so it traps the ultra fine dust. If you don't believe me, do this: Clean out your airbox really good, make sure it is as close to spotless as possible. Install your K&N and go offroading Come home, open up airbox and see how much dirt and shit is in your airbox go back to using paper air filters or find a dual stage foam filter edit: and don't pull one of those "Oh, I did go offroading through the grassy field next to the interstate." Go out and find some gnarly, soft, sandy hills and rip em up. Who knows, the filter might actually be more then adequite for you, but up here in the high mountain deserts they are worthless. MazdaTed 07-19-2006, 08:54 PM ^OMG! someone actually aggreed with me on that! Everyone usually says "You put oil in it to trap all the dirt." But the fact is that the oil isnt effective for the full 30,000 miles that K&N (and other companys) says it is |
