I have a Volkswagen Beetle with quite a few rusty areas but the rust has actually gone through the whole body. What can i do to remove this?

Beetles have issues with rust, so you're going to want to check the whole vehicle.

Generally, the first step is to remove all the rust and clean the surrounding area down to bare metal. Then you either use body filler, or weld new metal in place. Then you sand it down, prime it, and paint it.

Depending on the location, some people (myself included) prefer to use POR-15 :) Awesome stuff.

They sell rust scuffer wheels at most hardware stores too.

Check out Rocky Mountain Motorworks (Now known as Mid America Motorworks), they have a great Beetle restoration catalog. I had a 73 Super Beetle and thats what I used.

+1 . my neighbor is a an old VW fanatic. his old beetles had rusted through the body and he had to cut the area out and weld new metal in and grind the welds flat.

I used to hang out at Mustang Magic, as my first car (that I paid for) was a Candy Apple Red 1966 Mustang Coupe.

We learned a lot about rust, as Mustangs have a particular ability to return to the dust from whence they came.

Got to work on all kinds of cool cars, from a 500KR, to Cobras, to just plain cool classics or 'restromods'.

Once, a man came in with a Shelby GT 350. Looked awesome. Put it up on the lift and he had a "STOP" sign welded on the floorboard where it had rusted out :)

I hate putting in floorpans in a beetle it sucks and I never want to do one again.

just to echo everyone else, your best bet is to get in there with a wire brush on a power drill or something to that effect, clean out the rust, and use Por-15 or Rust Bullet on it. I've used Rust Bullet on my Rabbit and have had a great deal of success. If there are small holes, you can fill with fiberglass. big holes are best filled with metal tho.
