what do you mean?? :dunno: Look at the intake manifold for the RX7s, 4 runners = 4 cylinders. So the car is probably runnin on 3 cylinders if a stock 5.0 can keep up

CYMRXTacy : i'll never know for sure
CYMRXTacy : doesn't really matter at this point. The race is over with. I know it wasn't even close to being stock though

Hey guys, i'm the "moron" in the vid. Glad to hear you all liked it. Truth be told it is a pretty funny video, even if it is at my expense. But i have a good sense of humor so it doesn't bother me :D

Anyways, no the RX-7 doesn't need a tune up. It's running as flawlessly as a stock RX-7 can run.

And yes, i can drive. The RX-7 went 13.5@105mph bone stock. Come to find out the car was having boost issues when i made those passes. Stock RX-7s don't trap that high and if you put just about anyone else in my car they *might* be able to trap around 102. I've also owned a 00 Viper RT/10 which i drove to a 11.78@122mph bone stock with ~1100 miles on it. I think that record still stands for the New England Chapter Viper Club of America today. So one could deduce that i can infact drive :)

The RX-7 has since been fixed and the factory vacuum hoses needed to be replaced to rectify the boost problem i was having. The car now has silicone replacement vacuum hoses and a Pettit Racing Grounding Kit which is simply a negative ground strap that goes from the negative terminal on the battery to the unibody. I don't think anyone would hardly call these "mods". More like reliability mods. Anyways after having the 7 fixed the power difference is night and day and i have raced several cars that trap 106, 107 and above from a 45 roll and the RX puts around 2-3 cars on them so i'm guessing my 7 is trapping 107 or above.

Signed,
Shady RX-7 driver

I don't know anything about stock fds b/c mine wasn't stock since I got it. That video doesn't really make you look too great though. After the explanation it seems a little bit more understandable. You have any pics of the cym online? Also, I am going single and have some TT stuff for sale if you want it including a SS downpipe. Why is your car still stock anyway?

btw, do you know steve? He had a 600 hp fd from the asheville area. He has my rotors and housings right now but when I get them back I'll bring my stock fd up there and kick some ass... :)

ForceFed
05-10-2004, 11:26 AM
Cosborne, yeah i know the video doesn't make me look too good. Thats the beauty of editing :)

Anyways, thanks for the offer on SS DP. I may just take you up on that offer, but as of right now my apartment lease is up and i'm moving so spending money on the car is going to have to take a backseat until after i can get moved into the new place(have to buy alot of new stuff).

Anyways the reason the car is still stock is because when i first bought the car it had 36kmi on it and i wasn't sure what i was going to do with the car. Most CYMs are usually worth a little more when they are unmolested and since this one has such low miles on it, i figured why not keep the car as stock as possible. This was 4-5 years ago. At the time i also had a 2000 Viper RT/10 that was Steel Grey with the Connolley leather package so between the daily driver, the snake and the CYM neither car got driven much which is why my RX-7 only has 44kmi on it now but i'm digressing. Anyways the 7 started developing boost issues due to bad vacuum hoses (SURPRISE!) so i had Rotorsports in Kannapolis replace the vacuum hoses that i didn't have the tools to get at for me. I did about 98% of the vac hose replacement myself but couldnt get to a couple others. Aside from that i have a Pettit Racing Grounding Kit which i got for free. Those are my only mods. When the car was at rotorsports i had them check the compression and it came out as:
1st rotor 108,108,109
2nd rotor 110,109,107
The car has great compression and runs fantastic if that gives you any idea :)

As for Steve no i don't think i know him. I only know a couple of FD owners around. One has a anthracite colored custom wide body with a T76 ( i think, don't quote me on that), a Montego blue with basic bolt ons and a Red one owned by a kid named Jason. Thats pretty much it for around here.

LOL! Take a look at your sig.

Anyways, 13.5@105 is a respectable time. In 1993 only two American made cars out-accelerated the RX-7. They were the ZR-1 Corvette and Dodge Viper. The RX-7 beat them in nearly every other category though. :)

the 7's were all built to perform. thats what i love about them. if you want it fast in the 1/4, its pretty easy to do. if you want a good auto-x car thats even easier. IMO they're the best all around cars.

everything blows up eventually. I was going to try some new apex seals that are supposed to be a lot better but unfortunately I'm worried I'll bend them too much over 10,000 rpm and snap them. The ones I have are more rigid but less resistant to detonation.

ForceFed
05-11-2004, 06:41 AM
Yeah you are right. The sarcasm went clean over my head, LOL. Sorry! :hide:

I agree the 7 was one of the nicest rides made back then and even until as of late. I think one magazine put it the best while reviewing the 7. They said:
"The 3rd generation RX-7 is the best sports car ever made. And then it blows up."

They are pretty much spot on with that statement. I'm usually very paraonoid about my car and fanatical about the preventative maintenance. I use Marvel Mystery Oil everytime i fill up (a good part of the reason why the car does not suffer from low compression like MANY other 7s on the road), travel no more than 500 miles between oil changes and the coolant gets flushed once every spring. I am trying to preserve the natural disposition of the car as much as i can. I'd also like to have the engine disassembled and ported *before* it blows up so that i don't have to pay for a new engine but thats a little ways down the road from now (read: poor at the moment). Ultimately the plan for the 7 is a Garrett based GT40 full ball bearing turbo, Haltech E6K, big injectors, agressive street port and either HKS or GREX 6 speed gear set. The outside of the car would remain stock looking save for a set of wheels. I don't like bodykits :piss:

Oh and i thought somewhere somebody had asked for a pic of the 7. Here is one that i took this past weekend:

Not this one. This is my prissy little bitch. She doesn't like water, doesn't like anything but sunshine. Auto cross? Bah she's too lazy to do that :D

But on a more serious note i have autocross before in the past. Wayyyyyyyyyy back in 95,96 and 97 i used to Autocross a MKIII Supra that had a 1JZ-GTE swap. I also tracked the car at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio, and NER. I sold my Supra to get a Montego Blue RX-7, ended up hating the color, selling it and bought the CYM. Then i had a 2000 Viper RT/10 Steel Grey with the Connolley leather package but the Viper has since gone to Mopar heaven :(

The Viper was nice. I bought it more for the bling factor. If i wanted it to handle i would have bought the GTS but i liked the targa roof. Whenever the targa roof came off, the chicks would drop panties like it was your birthday.

Compared to the RX-7 the Viper felt too heavy, too wide and just plain too big, even though when the Viper and RX-7 were side to side the Viper is only about 3-5 inches longer. The Viper handled good, but the secret to the Viper's handling is no big secret; it's the big fuggin tires. Compared to the RX-7 the Viper rode like a Cadillac and didn't transition between turns nearly as well as the 7. The 7 feels like a go-kart compared to the Viper. I'll try and get a few pics up of the Viper but i'll have to dig them out as they are saved on a backup CD i made forever ago.

Here is a pic that i found floating on my hard drive so i uploaded it. This pic was the last pic i had taken of the car. A week later the car was destroyed (please don't ask, i've told the story a million times and hate sounding like a broken record).

In this pic i was taking the cars out of storage from the winter up in NY. Thats why there is an abundance of dust on the cars as you can see on the Viper's roof.

Sorry LX i missed this post. I've never heard any bumpsteer issues with the Viper. I've bottomed mine out a couple of times with just some spirited driving while up in NY but it never bumpsteered on me. I do know that when cornering hard that you have to be extremely careful with the throttle. Vipers can be a little bit twitchy if you aren't careful with the throttle, despite the fact they have huge amounts of rubber underneath them.

FD and Viper are almost the same. the RX7 is WAY too expensive for what is is, no offence chris or other dude. but the cool thing is...and the insurance guy didn't think it was right...but insurance for me on an FD w/ a clean driving record was less than $400/6 months. and an mr2 turbo was less than $300. he thought it was the n/a at first. WRX insurance is outragous when you don't have a clean record. my last bill was $1300/6 months. now it's $444.64. i'm VERY happy
