All you have to do is ask. How long will it take you to grow up? I can make the Ban Days, Weeks, Years, just let me know.

Odviously "over the last 5 threads in the Lounge about the same thing" the owners (of the Rx7Club) have had complaints about the content in the Lounge from paying venders. I personally did not object to the Thong Thursday thread and would take time to weed out the more tasteless pics.

The owners would like to have Mazda take the site/magazine seriously. Maybe have a voice together that could help us all.

Anyway have fun, Jeff

I do think it quite dumb that many of the same people who made that Lounge the place that it is have been exiled over this. If someone tells me that the RX-7 Club Lounge is not one of the most highly frequented sections on that forum, they'd have to be lying. Now advertisers have come in and want that section cleaned up or gone? There goes a solid portion of the traffic right there, as well as a solid portion of their target market.

I understand Ryan's position in all of this as that is money right there. It seems like the advertisers might want to be less concerned with bad words and pictures of asses, and more concerned with the target audience they are trying to reach. 18-27 year old guys drink, have sex, like seeing hot girls without clothes on, use foul language, and are generally not uncomfortable in an environment that provides this. The whole idea that the RX-7 Club is a "family site" is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Are there alot of 8 year olds browsing the forums? Alot of grandmothers? Alot of moms? No, it's 15-45 year old guys.

you know... i still like the club a little, but 2ndgen said it all right there and you guys know this.. who are they trying to kid when they say "family". does the whole family stay at home on a friday night after dinner to browse the rx7club forum?

who browses the lounge? if people don't like how the lounge is, then..... GO TO ANOTHER ONE?

again, who buys rx-7s? my mom doesn't drive one. niether does my 10 year old brother. are they afraid that the content of the lounge is going to scare away costomers? you know, it's not really the mod's fault... it's the vendors! they can fuck off for all i care. i've purchased over $15,000 of mods for my sevens over the past few years. NONE of that money went to any of those vendors. they're all over priced. shop and compare.

Thanks, I have my moments.

And you're right Rupert. Half of the vendors on there don't even solely cater to RX-7's. Everyone is all uppity about deleting content that isn't directly related to RX-7's, well how about deleting vendors that aren't directly related to RX-7's? I haven't bought shit from any of those guys that are advertising on there. Most of them are over priced boutique shops that sell stupid shit. My car was totally built from Racing Beat, Mazdatrix, Icemark, Kevin Landers, Malloy Mazda. Momo, and local shops. All of the other shit that's advertised there is generally stuff that nobody buys.

Not to mention the fact that 75% of RX-7 owners are cheap fucks who get a thrill out of hacking something together to see if it works. Very few of them are going to drop $6k on a turbo upgrade, 3k on a bodykit, or whatever the hell else. These are the guys that scrounge junkyards looking for cool parts. If they had that kind of money to blow on cars, they would be driving something that they didn't have to install a fuel cutoff on to avoid flooding the engine everyday.

:dunno: hate to burst your bubble but the lounge never was about "being serious" and why should it be its the lounge close it or let it be the lounge take your pick. the rest of the site is more than serious enough to make up for the lounge anyway.

You guys sure bitch a lot for something that was free to you and you had to do nothing to maintain.

Maybe some of the recent events were harsh, but how else are they going to get people's attention? There was a lot of talk between the moderators of what exactly to do about the lounge situation; this has been coming for a while. There were suggestions as to other ways to handle the situation, but with Ryan going out of town and things getting even worse quickly, they had to step in and do something.

Paying venders had a problem with it, so you're shit out of luck. Is Ryan going to side with a bunch of freeloading people that hang out in the lounge almost entirely and contribute nothing to the real essence that the board was intended for? An intention that the venders were willing to advertise on? Or is he going to side with a bunch of whiners?

I mean, I agree some of the stuff was harsh at first, but the fact that a bunch of threads popped up right as all of this was going on to merely complain, and the fact that now people are purposefully creating accounts, signatures, and other things to cause trouble on rx7club only PROVES that some of those lounge rats were too immature to ever change. There have been people creating accounts with names to bash on venders, people creating distasteful signatures, and people complaining and bringing up bs in many threads. Is this a way to solve a problem? No... It’s only a way to make it worse.

I'm sure some compromise could've been met, but now who knows.

That being said, though, I signed up for this forum because it seems to be the new lounge. I loved rx7club for its technical content, and I still do. The lounge was nice when I was bored, but it wasn't the reason I was on rx7club. However, now that there is this forum I can come here when I'm bored and keep rx7club for my technical information.

and as for acting like kids! firstly , who said we had to grow up? the world is getting toos erious as it is.. not only that, i spend 40 Hrs a week, being serious, pouring over technical drwaing, solving problems with aircraft, dealing with suppliers, then i have to run my own business, answer to my contractors, doing my monthly taxes.

when it comes to the 7 and the site, i drive my 7 to relax and unwind, and the same goes for the site lounge, i want a laugh and light entertainment. and a bit of arse as well.

An intention that the venders were willing to advertise on? Or is he going to side with a bunch of whiners?

Now I don't want a flame war but this one paragraph sum up the whole problem.

First off the The forum sells ads and that is the income portion. The Ads are for poeple that frequent the baord to see. hopefully the vendors will gain name recognition from said ads. THAT IS ADVERTISING. Now the more you have on the board the more the adds get seen the more RX7club is able to charge for ADS. Is that clear to all so far?? and to further proove my point remember that list that was just published?? Found here http://rankings.big-boards.com/?p=all What do you think that ranking is for???? If your at the top you are getting premium ad money. If you are at the bottem you looking for investors to pay your electrical bills, cause you aint gettin' shit for ad money. The two things that put you at the top are 1. memberships and 2. Post Counts.

So now is everybody clear on how ad money is generated?? The more MEMBERS that POST, the MORE MONEY YOU GET.

You have Jeffshoots and dDub telling you that the mods got together and discussed FREELOADERS and WHINERS and how to get them out of the forum.

Let me spell it out for you. The MEMBERS generate the CASH. The MEMBERS ARE THE BILL PAYERS and the mods call us freeloaders and Whiners.

This is not uncommon in business with the weak minded. Let me ask you, how many of you are bothered each day by certain customers in your business??? I am sure you have some "girl" in you accounts recievable Deparment that is always frustrated at some customer. Never mind that those pesky customers are the ones that PAY HER SALERY so she can go out and get a new pair of sandals!!!!! Get the comparison??? We are the customers and the Mods are the girl in AR.

We are just pestering them....why don't we just go away....so they can get some real work done. No need to keep that post count up.....That bigboards.com will keep 'em high up on the list cause they make nice nice with them. real numbers mean nothing.....nothing

07-24-2005, 03:16 AM
You're not getting it dude...

There was no problem UNTIL THE VENDERS AND ADVERTISERS COMPLAINED. Nothing was ever going to happen to the lounge but then the advertisers started getting up on Ryan's dick (from what I've heard) about the lounge and how it is not "work safe" or "appropriate" or "car related."

Not only that, but some prospective advertisers WOULDN'T do it until the lounge issue was dealt with. Is that enough information for you? I mean shit, if the venders and advertisers don't like it, potential ones wont come on until it's dealt with, then how are those members generating money? The way it was looked at is that the lounge, in its old state, was actually causing a loss in revenue.

RXSevenSymphonies
07-24-2005, 03:26 AM
Mazda and the vendors should still take the site seriously despite the content of the lounge because that's who we are. Why should some "adult" content make it any less credible? The tech sections and the lounge are a more complete representation of the forum's RX-7 and rotary enthusiasts.

dDuB
07-24-2005, 03:29 AM

Well Ryan's livelyhood is now RXTuner and rx7club. Rx7club promotes RXTuner and gets advertisers for both, he doesn't work in any other form, from what I understand, besides those. So his option is to have money, or not, not like this is "extra" money or something that he's making on the side -_-

You're correct. Considering Ryan and Brian (I think that's his name) made all of ~$500 last year from the magazine, something obviously needs to be done. I have to admit, the more bitching I see on here the more I'm siding with the Mods on this one.

Ryan has been trying to get Mazda involved in our group for years now - since before the forum was anywhere near what it is now. They have always been hesitant for one reason or another, which has been frustrating to Ryan and to those of us who know him, as we know corporate "sponsorship" could mean great things for the club and RX enthusiasts.

Mazda isn't exactly a small tuner shop or parts supplier; they generate millions of dollars in revenue annually, and cater to people of all kinds. While RX-7 owners are becoming younger and younger as the value of those cars drop, RX-8 owners tend to be older and more professional (from what I've seen) since it's a brand new, relatively expensive car. Ironically, that's how the RX-7 community used to be - it was a rare thing for me to know someone my age that owned a 7.

Mazda isn't going to put their name on something that, in theory, could be a liability to them. Are they going to advertise a website that has foul language, sexual content and just overall inappropriate material on it?

If everyone would stop whining for a minute to realize A) we now have this site to mess around on, and B) getting Mazda on board with our club, forum, etc would be a very GOOD thing. If you think otherwise, then you're not truly an RX enthusiast.

Ryan has tried to get Mazda to agree to give away a free issue of RX Tuner magazine to anyone who buys or test drives an RX-8, but to my knowledge it's never happened. Seeing as how the magazine references the club site, why do you think that is?

And for those of you calling Ryan a money-hungry, greedy "sell out" business man... get a fucking clue. He just had to cash out a large portion of his 401(k).

No one goes into business to lose money, or just break even. Ryan gave up a GREAT job, with GREAT income, to devote himself to our community. I personally think he should never have done so, but it was his decision because he really loves being a part of this group, and wants to do something for ALL OF US to make it even better. Just like any business owner, he has the right to make money and live a comfortable life thanks to his efforts. If you don't like "big business," or appreciate someone doing what he has to to make things work and earn a living... welcome to the real world.

And quit trying to stir shit up over at RX7club.com - all you're doing is making asses of yourselves (those that are doing it) and reinforcing Ryan's (and the Mod's) conviction that the cleaning up needed to be done. People who are a nuisance to the community don't deserve to be a part of it. TRYING to get banned is just plain immature, and fucking retarded.

I just have some things to say about it.

I think its funny that they say the lounge added nothing to the forum. Sure, it didn't add anything technical wise except the occasional thread about how to do something on a non-rotary vehicle. But it added a lot to the feel of the place.

I understand completely why the mods started cleaning the lounge up, I was part of a lot of the rule bending and sometimes breaking and am actually amazed I was never banned.

That is why when this opportunity came about, I jumped on it. Here I can post the things without worry that I was trying to squeak past on the 7 club.

My only problem now is, before I would just whore up the lounge, but I was usually browsing the technical sections as well, adding in whenever I had something usefull (however rare that could be) to add. And now, I most likely won't be doing that. I have other websites that take up the other tabs of my browser.

OH well, not like a single poster who never "added much to the community" will be missed over there.

About damn time....

I really couldn't care less why they decided to start locking down on everything so hard, or if they wanted to keep things that way in the interest of better business...

I just wanted the full story.... There's nothing more that I dislike then movements from the shadows under false pretenses... I see enough of that day to day as is, and the "well, we're just keeping to the rules" and "we want this to be a family site, but we're willing to cut off a good chunk of our existing one to get that way" excuses weren't flying with me....

I still think alienating people that gave that site much of it's personality and popularity is stupid. But, Ryan needs to make money so I really can't blame him. I'm having more fun at this place anyways, so I don't really care anymore.

I'm with DAK, in that all I wanted was an explanation.

I was one o the ones that agreed that the Lounge had degenerated into something subpar in the last couple o months, and that something needed to be done.

But then they started laying out a heavy hand, banning left and right, deleting threads, etc. Some of the things were good. Some were not so good. And when we asked for explanations, we got "we're just following the rules."

Sounds suspiciously like the nazis saying they're just following orders.

Now we start seeing more in depth explanations THAT MAKE SENSE! All over the Lounge, the suggestion was talk to us, not at us...and everyone got all sanctimonious "We don't have to explain anything to you"

BTW know how I percieve threads like Thong Thursday? It's like Dress Down Friday at work. Lighten up, people, its just a little T&A.

I knew everyone would see it my way ;)

I'm seriously considering posting that over on the other site, too.
