Allright, I bit the bullet and bought a 686+. Six inch barrel, 7 shot.

I got two speed loaders for it too. What else should I get? :D

I know all about modding cars, but guns are a new world to me :P

I know I want to buy some dummy rounds to practice speed loading with. I'd like a laser sight for my wife, is that something I can buy/install myself?

this was all i could find and it looks like its a new grip with the laser built in so it shouldnt be too hard to install

Crimson trace is a good product....cant go wrong there. thats about your only option for a laser without having a rail on the weapon....but its a good option. You wont have any holster issues like you might if you had a laser hanging below the barrel.

Not sure why you would want dummy ammo to practice speed-loading, regular ammo would work just fine. Think about it--it has to stand up to fast handling anyways, or it would be worthless when you need it in a hurry, right? If you really are set on dummy ammo, find someone who reloads in your area and ask them to make up a set for you with no primers or powder, or with sand instead of powder. Gunsmiths may be able to help you out on finding someone who does their own reloads.

EDIT--or you could try this:

Awesome. I'll definitely look into the Crimson Trace, it's kinda pricey tho.

I wont have holster issues because it's basically illegal to carry in MD. Well, unless I have documented threats against my life.

I found dummy rounds, 68 cents each :) I wanted the orange tip so no one could ever confuse them with the real thing . . . THAT would be a disaster :)

I handled an XDm .40. Thats a nice gun. I wish I had infinite money.

When I was doing research, I found "Welcome to TFL!"

Isn't there a way to mount a laser to the front of the gun? I don't want to replace these grips, and the $300 is a bit daunting compared to a $20 laser + attachment.

Do a search for RV mounts.

Awesome. went to the range and put some rounds through it. Really awesome.

the wife sent three bullets into the same hole in the target too. I'm impressed.

nicely done. I imagine that big fucker really soaks up the .357 recoil a lot better than my 3" SP101. But then again, I'm going to be carrying mine so..

Yeah, this is not a concealed carry gun, as that is illegal in the Peoples Republic of Maryland :P

My wife is OK shooting 158 grain magnums through it. She tried a FN .40 after, but really didn't like how light the gun was. :P

If you ever have a chance to shoot one of these do it, I fell in love with this gun. Got a bad rep when the libs found out it defeats body armor no prob. Never mind the fact of all the other handguns that will do it. :(

Yes it is, until the aftermarket picks it up you can buy FN or a few hand mades off some gun forums.

Also a 1.75 inch mag extension brings the weapon cap up to 30 rounds.

Yah.
