I'm going to try to get some work done on my motor swap car, which I have hardly touched in a year.

It's a carbed Ford 5.0 in an S5 vert. Vert still has driver side (left) engine wiring harnesses, the passenger side engine harness from the ECU has been removed (with ABS and wiper stuff extracted from that to use).

I have wiring instructions for the engine side of things (alt/battery/starter/dist), but am clueless on the rest of the wiring.

Where is the ignition wire, meaning I put a wire from the starter solenoid to _____?
Where do I get dash/radio/ac/fuel pump power from? Wire from alt or battery (or ?) to ____?

Oh man, I remember it was blue and some other color for IGN.

If I were you I'd use a free relay for all that - just for simplicities sake.

On my van I used a megasquirt relay board and replaced the whole ECU relay set.

the dash board radio and fuel pump should come from your ignition in the on position.

I don't know, if you have a helms just follow the ignition wire diagram and connect them after the on position. I hate messing with wires under the dash, my defi gauges have to be attached to a 12v bat, grd, 12v ign, and headlights in the on position.....after almost cutting my ignition lead I decided to take it to a shop!?!
another way you could get theh 12v is to go to your cig lighter.....but I don't think I would want that much load running off my cigarette lighter.

Check the Grannys Speed Shop website, they had links about this. Also you can just do key on/key off tests with a test light or multimeter to find out.

See, when you say "use a relay", I don't know what you mean. Relays are the little black square things, right? That's about all I know about those. I mean it, I don't know electrical, aside from how to connect one wire to another, like blue goes to blue, white goes to white, solder or crimp, heat shrink, whatever. I need like a 3rd grade level explanation.

Awesome, less to worry about.

If I could understand and follow a wiring diagram, I wouldn't be asking! I know the wiring diagrams are all online for free.

I read all that, but it gets really jumbled. He kind of lumps together several cars/engine swaps within the same set of instructions, but I'll look over it again.

blue - orange?

Question mark?

this should help you understand the symbols of a wire diagram http://www.vanagonparts.com/wiring_sym.html

if you still have your driverside intact then you should find the two ring terminals for your alternator and starter easily. starter 12v #2 should be a female spade terminal by the transmission.
