We stopped at the McDonald's/Amoco station for gas and food and were headed home thru Darlington and Florence on 52.
As I'm pulling up to a light on 52 just after 95, a fox body Mustang GT convertible is pulling out to the light also. I'm in a good mood, and they are checking out SaRa, probably due to the shoepolish #s on the window. I crack a rev and they rev back. I look over and nod. It's on! The light turns green and I wait for him to go, just to make sure he's into it. I let him get about a fender out on me and then I launch. Some wheelspin outta the hole, but not too bad b/c I didnt put air back in the rear tires after the track...they were still at 24 psi.
I pulled back that fender right away, and got about half a car ahead in first. I hit second hard and wagged the tail for a second, once she caught I dropped another length on him. By the top of second, I'm almost 3 cars ahead and ready to hit third, but he is backing out of it. I go ahead and put it into 4th and watch for a second, but no action so I shift into 5th and set to unpacking my McD's food.
I check the Broadway (mirror) and see a car moving up quick thru traffic a few yards back. Great. A cop. I can see the lights of a Camaro coming up, so I drop down to good behavior mode. The Camaro pulls along side of me and I see that it is not a cop, but 2 kids in a black 93-94 Z28. The road ahead is clear, and he is pointing down the road. This guy wants to go. I put down my chocolate shake, drop the car into 3rd (doing about 50mph) and give him the nod that I'll take the bait. I goose it a little to get him moving and he drops the hammer. I'm pretty sure it was an automatic, and he had an exhaust. Again, I let him have about a fender on me and then I floored it. Before the top of 3rd gear I had already passed him and he was about 40ft back when I was going into 4th. I ran 4th gear out for a few hundred RPM for good measure, but I could tell his heart just wasnt in it anymore.
I shifted back to 5th and went back to chowing down. A few minutes later, they pull slowly past me. I pop the Blitz at them and the passenger motions thru the open window "no, we dont want anymore" and gives me a thumbs up before he turns off.
Boring ride the rest of the way home.
