There will be a new addition to the SC street race scene very soon. The Civic Si that we have been building since November is almost complete. A preliminary dyno session on Saturday showed us that the 440s we are using (hoped that they would last a little while..) are not nearly enough, not even at low boost. We are using the AEM EMS, and it is running a built 9.5:1 GSr motor and t3/t04e Super 60 Stage 5 turbo (.70 a/r) The turbo pushes so many CFM that just as we hit VTEC, the compressor hits full stride and sucks all the gas up. As a result, we go dead lean just after VTEC and each dyno run was shut off at 5600rpm. We are set to rev the motor to 9k when it is complete.
Results at 10psi? 319.2hp and 295.7 ft/lb.
Once the 720s are rec'd and dialed in, I know I can pull another 50hp minimum at the same boost level. That will be 375hp at the wheels on a daily driven 10 psi Honda.
Boost will be raised accordingly and I see no reason that 500+ hp cannot be realized. Possibly much higher. Target boost on race gas is 20psi.
One interesting sidenote.. when we pulled off the dyno, a 94 Corvette ZR1 was strapped in. Me and everyone else gathered around to watch.. I mean, c'mon, it's a ZR1.. His best pull? 319.4hp. Just .2hp better than ours, and we haven't even hit VTEC yet. LOL!!
Stay tuned..

Texas89LX 07-03-2002, 11:50 AM torque steer?

That ZR1's seen better days I think. 319.. LOL...
Rob
yea, the ZR1 was in need of a tuneup. But if you figure it, at about 15%-20% friction loss.. that is about 370hp. That year the ZR1 was rated at 375hp.
Traction is actually not that bad in the car, it pretty much hooks and goes due to the NEX full coilover system and the 18" Racing Harts. Once the boost is up'd I'm sure it will be a factor, but I can scramble the boost to come in at a higher speed or gear to avoid the low gearing causing the power to the wheels to go up in smoke. It will be a fun ride for sure.
The car tracks straight right now too.. No real probs with torque steer yet.
stay tuned..
BoostedFox 07-04-2002, 03:27 AM There are some guys at Greer with an all motor hatch that runs 8.01s. Thats about the fastest one I can think of very locally. Great numbers for a B. Keep up the good work.
preludedude 07-05-2002, 12:02 AM Ive seen a early-90's Talon turbo awd run a 7.97 at ShadySide a few months back...he doesn;t even seem like he is banging through gears also..he launches easily and shift smoothly..no banging...very skilled driver it seems...very fast for a 4 cylinder if you ask me..

Sean_no_car 07-05-2002, 12:29 AM 312 on a B18C1 at 10psi. at 9.5:1 before VTEC?
Not that I doubt you Jeff, but I hope you can see why I'm skeptical.

I'm with Sean, i've never seen anyone put down that much HP, and such a Low RPM on a 1.8 L
Ben Howard 07-05-2002, 12:45 AM I think this car isnt 1.8 anymore. I have seen the car and its "An Amazing Machine" (F&F quoter here). I will send out pics to Ozzy and who or whatnot so we can get some sight of this car. Everyone can be skeptical. s### i was too when i heard what it put down. But paper doesnt lie. And being in the shop with the car at just idle will make things seem different.
Ill have to get some proof just to keep the flaming down. <img src="http://www.spartanburgracing.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
I totally understand your skepticism guys. To be honest, I could not believe it myself at first. But, bear in mind, our baseline run that day was 177hp and 185 ft/lb at the same boost level(.7 bar) The main disbelief on my part was the torque. Hp is one thing, but for a Honda motor to make that much torque, especially that low. But it was repeated. We had 15 runs that day. And after the 6th one, where the power went up, all of the runs were a stones throw from the best one.
A few adjustments to fuel and timing and we jumped over 50hp on our next pull. By the sixth run, we were at the best of 319.2hp and 295.7 ft/lbs. It was at that point we realized that there was no possible other way to get more gas into the system until the 720s get here.
During the pulls, we popped the piping in two locations, one on the cold side of the I/C blew with so much force that it tore the APEX'i reducer sleeve.
At 10 psi.
I'm in awe of the car, and I can't wait to get back to tuning even more hp out of it when we have the gas that we need. I'm going for 400hp at 10 psi. It may be unobtainable, but I figure maybe we have a good shot considering that we ended the other runs at 5600rpm and still wound up making almost 320hp.
Ask Danny Tang, Ben, and their friend (sorry, never was introduced..). They were here today and saw the dyno sheet.
The block is a sleeved B18c1.. stock bore, so yes, it is a 1.8L. JE pistons 9.5:1, Crower billet rods, balanced crank, stock head (ports), Crower Ti valves and retainers, ITR springs, GSR cams. STR cam gears, HP Racing sheet metal intake mani, KIWI tubular exhaust manifold, HK$ 40mm wg (.7 bar), t3t04e super 60 stage 5 clip turbo, .70 comp a/r. AEM EMS. Stock ignition. 3" G.E.T. downpipe and 3" exhaust straight (no cat/res) to the HK$ Ti Hiper muffler. 255 lph intank pump.. AEM fuel rail and univ fpr, AEM fuel filter...
That's it.. no voodoo.. no secrets..no naws (hahaha)
stay tuned..

Ben Howard 07-06-2002, 07:59 AM Saw the dyno chart guys. One thing to hear...another thing to see it. It will be at The Rock in august! perfect chance to make a Spartanburgracing.com trip somewhere.

HoNdAqT 07-06-2002, 09:43 AM I say lets go. This sounds like an amazing machine and I wanna check it out .

And this hatch looked like what? I highly doubt that it was all motor. Now if it was silver and totally gutted, then it was spraying some NOS to get those times. I know b/c I've seen the car. The amount of HP you need to run that time all motor is very high.
someone AIM me at JDM2ner or e-mail me and tell me how to and I'll post the dyno sheet.
stay tuned
Who did I talk to in the Isle of Palms today from lunspeed?
Corban 07-06-2002, 08:46 PM I like fast cars. They go fast. I saw this fast car one time.
Ben Howard 07-07-2002, 12:32 AM Had to be Roth or Mike. I know they are down that way. Why do you ask...??
Jeff put the scan of the dyno on your site and then copy and paste the url from the properties in the middle of something...IM me and ill eplain it more cause if i write it out here it says invalid
BoostedFox 07-07-2002, 03:41 AM I was just wondering if the 4G63 head off a JDM Lancer EVO will work on a regular US 4G63 in a GS-T or GS-X? The one with the hollow camshafts, etc... What would the power gain be if it does work. Probably not better than the BR Stage 3 with HKS 272 cams riight?
Ben Howard 07-07-2002, 10:11 AM If i am not mistaken it will not fit. But that Bushur Racing head is nice. Im a fan of the bushur parts since i put my downpipe on yesterday. Those HKS cams are the way to go though. Or you could just save your money and go more turbo with a larger turbo and external wastegate like a 40mm tial.
in regard to the BR stage 3 and HK$ 272s.. I don't have any experience yet in the JDM DSMs, but we have chosen a 1g stock head with CROWER valves. springs and retainers for the projekt currently in the garage.
We are also using the Crower 414 cams. I chose these cams after speaking for a while with Brian Crower and that was after reading the article in one of the magaizines.. (Turbo?) on the GVr4 buildup. The cams that we are using on this car are the same ones that added 50lb/ft of torque at 7500rpm on the GVr4. I'm expecting even more on the projekt car.. I'll be fine-tuning the cams with the new AEM gears, all on a Talon 2.5L with a .60 a/r T3t04e.
