my 1st semester grades came in. i ended up doing waaay better then i expected. for those of you who don't know, my UGPA was somewhere in the range of a 2.3. Ok, it was EXACTLY 2.3. yes, it's a small miracle i got into grad school.
at any rate, if i do well enough second semester i may have the chance to transfer to a MUCH more prestigious school. other students have been telling me i should consider transferring, based on LSAT score and my current grad GPA. my LSAT score is sitting right in the average LSAT for the school i'm considering.
the trade off is, the school is in new york, and costs about 16k more then my current tuition. that's basically 32k over two years. transportation into new york is also fucking killer, and will easily add 15-20k over two years as well, i'm sure. so coming out of school, i'll be probably be 100k+ in the hole, as opposed to a "smallish" 60k.
however, the pay off is huge... the school im in is 2nd tier. it's not shitty by any means, but it's not going to make anyone take notice. the school i hopefully will get into is a very well known tier 1. i.e. much better connections, and a much better chance of scoring one of those 12 hour / day but good paying straight out of school jobs.
other considerations that are nagging me include the fact that i might actually be dumb as hell, and i'll discover i can't hack it in the better school. also, even if i stay where i'm at, i feel like i'll be alright. study hard, get extern/internships and don't fuck around this time like i did in undergrad. previous years, almost all graduating students got jobs... only a few get those high paying jobs, but for the most part everyone comes out doing alright. i'm hardly bottom rung in my class so i'm confident i at least won't be starving (maybe).
so, any of you older guys got some advice?
You're dumb and won't make it.
kidding.... $100k is alot...

Advice I was given about medical schools: Go wherever you can come out with the least amount of debt. It's all pretty much the same.

I would stay put. Honestly its the fact that you graduated and completed everything and not the name of the school.

Big firms that pay big bucks farm kids out of big schools. Quinn/Emmanuel which is probably the biggest (and definitely the most profitable) law firm in LA isn't going to be looking for new hires at St. Francis Law in Bumfuck Connecticut. They are going to be looking at big name, top 25 schools because that's where they all came from.
I started my MBA at Wake Forest, then quit. I was thinking about going back to High Point University to finish because it was cheaper, and then I realized that it would be retarded. I'd save $20,000 and have a degree from a school that isn't accredited, and no one has ever heard of. When you walk into a vice presidents office for an interview and say that you specialized in private banking and got your MBA at Wake Forest, it's about 19 million times more impressive. Not to mention, the amount of extremely wealthy, extremely well connected people that you will meet at that school. It's worth the extra money, and it will pay off in the long run. Do it.

thanks for the pointers. i'm definitely going to apply. i guess i have until my acceptance/rejection to decide if i actually want to go or not. right now i am leaning towards going.
in an ideal world prestige shouldn't matter. but like it or not, prestige does count. the education is probably much better as well, but to be honest, i'm not really thinking about that. prestige + connections makes a huge difference.

 now that i'm in a position of decent scholastic standing, i'm suddenly feeling the whole 'work hard for yourself and keep your own spoils' republican mantra... at least as far as GPAs go.

i swear to god you fucking chinks have no goddamn sense of humor!!! ;)
redistribution of GPAs? c'mon man. i'm not totally for the whole socialist states of america idea either. i don't like paying an assload of taxes to support some bum with 15 kids anymore then you do.
