BATMAN 11-12-2006, 12:36 PM http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=7d144757ef Say No To Pistons 11-12-2006, 01:08 PM Thats why i properly ground myself after getting out of the car to fill up :) . And of course theres a reason why they removed those automatic filling buttons for the trigger, so your dumb ass wont go in the car and rub your ass all over the seat and create static energy. She should have left the pump inside the car. Say No To Pistons 11-12-2006, 03:44 PM Yup... people still use their gas filler caps to wedge the trigger in. Animal 11-12-2006, 04:13 PM A) She got back in her car during fueling (Big no-no) B) She didn't ground out by touching something metal (Either the pump itself or the car) before touching the nozzle (Do that if you have to get back in your car). I wish more people would have that happen to them, especially the tards that yap away on their cellphones when fueling. Savington 11-13-2006, 12:53 AM She stepped directly out of her car without touching anything - wearing a wool sweater. This is a worst case scenario. I get back into most of our cars when fueling them, but I do touch the car when I'm getting out to discharge. I don't get back into the Miata because I can hear the radio from outside the car. mazdaspeedrex 11-13-2006, 08:10 AM There are warnings all over the damn pumps about this. jhammons01 11-13-2006, 11:48 AM I wish more people would have that happen to them, especially the tards that yap away on their cellphones when fueling. There have been "0" (Zero) accounts of Cellphone use causing gastation ignitions. Please refrain from spreading Old Wifes tales in the future. I love how society just grabbed onto this one without One ounce of proof. And, "it's true, it happened to my brothers best freinds little sisters cousin......" jhammons01 11-13-2006, 11:51 AM She stepped directly out of her car without touching anything - wearing a wool sweater. Cosby 11-13-2006, 12:14 PM the pumps say not to use a cell phone... I ignore the signs and talk on my cell pretty regularly. I also leave the rx7 running usually because I fill up while Im letting it warm up. jhammons01 11-13-2006, 01:05 PM the pumps say not to use a cell phone... I ignore the signs and talk on my cell pretty regularly. I also leave the rx7 running usually because I fill up while Im letting it warm up. My point exaclty. Without one documented incident, even the Station owners bought that "Wifes Tale" in the name of future Lawsuits. The plastered the Stickers all over the pumps warning of Cellphone usage without ever having a single incident in the North American Contintent. One guy claimed...."this could happen" and everybody gleefully perpetuated the impending Doom. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't care either way if you use your Cell phone while pumping gas. I just like to point out hysterics when I see it. I always say, "Show me the Bodies" before I grasp onto any hysterics. Placing your plastic gas can on the ground while pumping is something you should do everytime. Getting back into your car (especially on dry winter days) is something you should never do. Try to touch the Door of the car as you exit.....the gas fumes are present when you arrive at the pump. ESD(ElectroStaticDischarge) is something that anybody that has worked in Electronics manufacturing is completly familiar with. The owner's manual of most leading cell phone manufacturers states this fact quite clearly." "It would be possible to create an ignition capable spark with a cellular telephone." "The chance of all the right conditions coming together at the same time are distinctly remote. There are numerous potential ignition sources on an automobile, but the incidence of fires during fueling episodes is rare, to say the least." "There has also been thought on static electricity being a ignition source in some of these fires. The Petroleum Equipment Institute in March 2002 issued a press release warning motorist to be cautious while fueling their vehicles and to follow three basic guidelines while filling up; 1) TURN OFF ENGINE. 2) DON'T SMOKE 3) NEVER RE-ENTER YOUR VEHICLE. Their web site: www.pei.org contains a link to the "STOP STATIC" campaign with useful information." "It is a misconception that Mobile Phones are intrinsically safe and can't ignite fuel/fumes. Mobile phones that light up when switched on, or when they ring, have enough energy released to provide a spark for ignition. Mobile phones should not be used in filling stations, or when fueling lawn mowers, boats etc." "Mobile phones should not be used around other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust (i.e. solvents, chemicals, gases, grain dust etc.). Mobile phones should be turned off before entering an area where other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust is located." There's a reason gas plants, refineries, oil rigs, etc don't allow non-IS electronics on the plants. |
