Supper 02-26-2008, 01:49 PM first time in my life I've never had a job. Its kinda nice. Anyway, who else is unemployed? Gonna start looking for something new in the next month or so I guess. wotnartd 02-26-2008, 03:04 PM I am. I'm selling plasma right now for fun money and am back in college. I am also living pat time with my aunt and am taking her to chemo therapy, radiation, doctor appointments, all the fun stuff associated with terminal cancer. Supper 02-26-2008, 03:56 PM any regrets leaving your dad's shop? My only regret is that it wasn't a clean sever. He still asks me to do work for him periodically even though I don't get paid. Its opened up an interested chapter in life though, actually being able to have a life and not think about work. Guess its time to start trying to figure out what to do next. Cosby 02-26-2008, 04:04 PM you could go huntin' wotnartd 02-26-2008, 04:22 PM you could go huntin' He probably does that already. czarofzar 02-26-2008, 07:50 PM Wow, when supper is out of work for over 3 months, you guys dont have a problem with that? When I have been out of work for almost 3 weeks, you folks got on my arse! so, WTF!? Tofuball 02-26-2008, 07:52 PM Methinks it's because you're a bit of a different person then him :P czarofzar 02-26-2008, 08:02 PM I'm different? Well, its likely im that way from eating hamburger cooked from your carbonmonoxide grill. Queen 02-26-2008, 08:04 PM and by "different" he means more obnoxious.. why must you be so nice, Tofu? czarofzar 02-26-2008, 08:06 PM you have your moments too. gtfo Tofuball 02-26-2008, 09:11 PM and by "different" he means more obnoxious.. why must you be so nice, Tofu? Well, Sup seems to take unemployment a little more gracefully . . . rodney87 02-26-2008, 09:17 PM I took a year off after high school before I started college. Its fun for a while, catch up on all the little stuff you've been wanting to do etc. But then you get bored, REALLY BORED. Supper 02-26-2008, 09:25 PM I haven't seen him post the sup-man toy of the month lately, funds must be a bit tight A bit tight might be an understatement :peace: Actually trying to sell a few of em at the moment. :( Well, Sup seems to take unemployment a little more gracefully . . . Uh... thanks... I've got an application in to the state but I missed the last hiring round by three days. Next round starts in April and last I heard I was in the top five for the "list" and there is something like 30 positions opening up. We'll see. Supper 02-26-2008, 09:28 PM I took a year off after high school before I started college. Its fun for a while, catch up on all the little stuff you've been wanting to do etc. But then you get bored, REALLY BORED. Damn... tell me about it. I've been bored out of my brains the last two months. The drug runners thing was a good distraction for the last week or so but its so boring now. Been working out and splitting firewood just for something to do. Which reminds me, I need to go get another couple cords of wood tomorrow so I have something more to do. bx7 02-27-2008, 05:51 AM I suggest joining the Marine Corps. Your time would be better spent shooting people in a foreign country then sitting on your duff collecting unemployment. Supper 02-27-2008, 11:27 AM I suggest joining the Marine Corps. Your time would be better spent shooting people in a foreign country then sitting on your duff collecting unemployment. Unemployment? I wish. The last 4 months of my last job were all contract. Which means no unemployment. As for the military, I've been talking to the Army recruiters and was offered an 11-Xray Option 40 . Don't meet weight requirements. Another reason I'm working out. Wouldn't mind shooting fuckers in the face for a living. TJGoSurf 02-27-2008, 04:24 PM Option 40? Well its the safer place to be in the infantry. Because all those guys are triple volunteers, then they meet the standards of the regiment. I wouldn't go there unless you're a PT stud. They would have no problem getting rid of you. RB240 02-27-2008, 04:58 PM i have been unemployed for only a month now and about to blow my brains out from boredom. I dont see how you do it. Supper 02-27-2008, 05:02 PM I wouldn't go there unless you're a PT stud. They would have no problem getting rid of you. Maybe I could become a PT Stud in 8 months and then go :boobies: TJGoSurf 02-27-2008, 05:04 PM Oh and rangers have shorter tours too, forgot to add that. Normally about 90 days at a time. But everyone I know has gotten out of the regiment so it may have changed. And your leave papers have to be signed by the SoD. Alex-7 02-27-2008, 05:06 PM How old are you sup? Supper 02-27-2008, 05:47 PM How old are you sup? Currently 24. Why? Supper 02-27-2008, 05:49 PM Oh and rangers have shorter tours too, forgot to add that. Normally about 90 days at a time. I've been talking to a -lot- of guys that are in Regiment right now. Been talking to a lot of guys that were in Regiment as well, not to mention just about anyone else I can find that will be willing to talk to me about it. Alex-7 02-27-2008, 05:51 PM I was gonna suggest you run for president but you're too young. Really though, I figured you were about my age. typically a little old to think about joining the service the service isn't it? Supper 02-27-2008, 06:00 PM Really though, I figured you were about my age. and how old are you? typically a little old to think about joining the service the service isn't it?eh, 32 is the max age if I remember right. I know quite a few guys that went in in their mid 20's. edit: and really, if I get the job with the state or a job in Alaska I most likely won't go into the service. TJGoSurf 02-27-2008, 06:02 PM ^ 32? yeah maybe in 2000. 40 or 42 i think is the age now. Alex-7 02-27-2008, 06:05 PM and how old are you? eh, 32 is the max age if I remember right. I know quite a few guys that went in in their mid 20's. edit: and really, if I get the job with the state or a job in Alaska I most likely won't go into the service. 24 When I was younger I really wanted to join the coast guard. Thought about it the other day on a whim and figured I was probably older than usual to be going in. Not that I'd even do it these days though. Supper 02-27-2008, 09:25 PM Not that I'd even do it these days though. I was talking about it this evening with a friend and came to the realization that this is really the first time in my life that I will actaully be able to make a decision how things go from here. I don't mean the small stuff. I mean true life decisions. Hell... the only big goal I had in life I accomplished by the time I was 22. Look at me Mr. Pathetic. Especially Mr. Pathetic since I'm venting this shit online, but it seems like the only place I can actually put this shit down. Yay, more ammo for 2ndGen. Fire away buddy, it might actually goad me into finally making a fucking decision and getting on with my life. Alex-7 02-27-2008, 10:47 PM I'm kinda in the same boat. I won't fully commit to any goal. Can't ultimatly decide what I wanna do. I just keep fucking around, having a good time and procrastinating. Or as I like to call it " keeping my options open" What was it you aconplished at 22? Supper 02-27-2008, 11:04 PM What was it you aconplished at 22? Became "one of the best" in my industry. Got to where I could walk onto any ski area in the west (excluding Cali) and if not be recognized at sight, have them know my name and know who I was. Same goes for most of the oil proccessing areas of WY, CO, and UT. I put everything I had into that job. I really miss the work, don't miss the job. rodney87 02-27-2008, 11:05 PM Dont feel to bad, my only life goals are to get a house and car (reliable) paid off so I can live off of a part time job. And do that as fast as possible :) kapplesauce 02-28-2008, 12:16 AM check this out... i work at a little manufacturing plant. we package cat litter of all things. its not glamorous but i work mon through wed night. full bad ass benefits, good pay, overtime if i want.... i can't see how anybody could deal with 2 days off a week. i can't even fit my hobbies into 4 days! fuck work. nobody on their death bed has ever said "i wish i would have worked more"... atleast that i know of... Alex-7 02-28-2008, 12:21 AM lol @ your kapp litter factory amigo. I don't know anybody who doesn't envy four days off a week though. kapplesauce 02-28-2008, 01:43 AM hell i laugh too... the whole 36 hours a week i'm here... then laugh all 4 days i'm off... the jobs a joke but thats the beauty of it. keep the cats shittin folks! i love my slacker ass job! Supper 04-03-2008, 06:43 PM Going in for an interview with a local company tomorrow. Funny thing is Schulmberger called me today wondering if I could come up next week and finish the hiring process. Interview here is already scheduled so I'll be doing that for sure, but 98% sure I'll take the Schulmberger job next weekish. Unemployment soon to be at an end, w00t. Supper 04-03-2008, 10:00 PM great companyExactly, I've worked with them for years and haven't seen any negatives. good luck sup Thanks, I'm going to need it. Right now any job I take is probably only going to last until the end of May/mid of June anyway. Got a phone call from the plant manager for Chevron down in Colorado that said my name was at the top of the list for the next operator position in the CO2 plant that comes open. w000t, easy hours, good money, smooth sailing  Supper 04-04-2008, 12:04 AM what exactly would you be doing in that position?Pretty much sitting behind a control board monitoring pressures making sure nothing blows up. Issuing work permits/entry permits/safety permits/etc for contractors/rousties that come on plant site. Have to do a walk around once ever hour or so to verify all guages are reading correctly and all electronics are reading correctly. They allow Operators to bring exercise equipment on site to put into the control room since all alarms/warnings are audible. I sense the glorious return...... of the sup-man toy of the month ;) :D:D Not for a few months, some non-priority bills have been stacking up the last few months and they take top spot in the queue. But I'm already planning out what the first largish purchase is gonna be, and thats going to be finally completing one of the toy of the month projects I started almost three years ago now. :peace: Thanks for the kind words mang :bigthumb: Supper 04-17-2008, 08:32 PM Gonna be going back into the oilfield. Woo. Alex-7 04-17-2008, 08:35 PM there will be blood. wotnartd 04-17-2008, 08:36 PM Have fun! Ark2 04-17-2008, 08:37 PM there will be blood. Milkshakes!! Alex-7 04-17-2008, 08:41 PM those too. czarofzar 04-17-2008, 08:43 PM good luck, great news! Terrh 04-18-2008, 01:16 AM I got laid off in november, just called in the other day and found out that it would be a permanant type thing. this sucks. Ark2 04-18-2008, 01:36 AM where did you work? Supper 07-17-2008, 01:42 PM So... 7 months unemployed now I guess. Got a phone call from the company I've been trying to get an answer out of for 7 weeks now, I start on Monday. Going to be making more money then I've ever made before. edit: and before anyone reads through the thread and asks why I didn't get the chevron job, current employees take priority and some field hand wanted it so he got it. This job is with an Alaskan company working here locally, best of both worlds. Supper 07-17-2008, 02:13 PM well, I don't know if it will return again. I guess we could consider my pickup the toy of the month and all the cool shit I'll be getting for it. First thing will be first though, all my bills that have been waiting in the wings will be paid off ASAP. Once thats done, an IRA is going to be started. Then we'll see how much "play" money I'll have left. Supper 07-17-2008, 02:23 PM Eh, technically its only 7 months of one bill actually. I was able to cover all my bills but one, and that one was paid up enough in advance that I don't technically owe a payment until octoberish. I just have zero savings left as a result. Internet, landline, and cable TV all get canceled later today. I won't be back home for a month or more unless I drive over on the evenings to get all my mail. Going to have to set every damn bill up on autopay. |
