I bought an X-Type today. Manual, V6, AWD, all options except the Navi...

I'll be posting pics momentarily...

Why would you buy an X-Type?!

Do you like luxury?

SpartanTS

The price was great, so that was a deal breaker.

I like luxury, to a certain degree. The X-Type is a great balance between sport and luxury. And I love the styling more than anything.

I had been looking at them for a while, I just had to find the right one before I pulled the trigger.

It's dark now, so pics would do it no justice. I'll put some pics up here tomorrow sometime before I head to work.

It is also a great balance between a Ford Taurus and carrying a purse.

Rampant assholery. Finally TFL is getting back to normal. It's not the same without jimlab and wingsfan.

I think the only Jag i'd get would be that old XJ12. And an XJ220.

Hmm, considering the Taurus rode on a 20 year old platform and shares no parts with the X-Type in any way, shape, or form... I'd say you're wrong... ;)

X-Type is loosely based on the Ford Mondeo from Europe. Far from carrying a purse...

"I felt that the X-Type passed the crucial loose wheels test, and that was good. The problem, however, was that from the first time that I stopped the car, on-lookers often mistook the X-Type for a new version of the Ford Taurus. More than once I was asked why my Taurus was sporting the leaping cat statuette on its hood?

Perhaps the answer lies partially in the X-Type’s price. In trying to build an economical Jaguar, I guess you have to find some ways of minimizing costs. I’m not saying that the X-Type uses any body parts or the Taurus platform, and certainly everything I’ve heard from both Jaguar and Ford decries that assumption. But there are some striking similarities between the two cars that don’t benefit either Ford or Jaguar. And since Volvos haven’t yet taken on the appearance of a Ford, which shows that Ford subsidiaries don’t have to all look-a-like, it’s a shame that the new X-Type doesn’t have a more original design.

The bottom line is that I always liked driving a Taurus, and for a number of years the Taurus and Sable were among America’s best selling vehicles. So maybe having lots of similarity to the Taurus is not too bad. Furthermore, as long as you position the car so that women primarily see the leaping cat, then you can still derive some benefits from Jaguar’s chick-magnet appeal.

The starting price for the basic X-Type is around $30,000. This gets you a 2.5-liter V6 engine matched to a five-speed manual transmission. A five-speed automatic is optional. If you jump up to the 3.0 model with its 3.0-liter, 227-horse V6 and standard automatic (a manual is optional at no cost), it’ll cost you an additional $6,000. If you add in all of the options that are available the X-Type gets close to $50,000, which then becomes a rather pricey Taurus, even if it is a chick-magnet."

Who produces that 3.0 V6 again? Oh yeah.

You bought a chick car, sorry to tell you.

That's like saying the Miata is a chick car, and we know how that argument will go. :)

Obviously, I didn't buy it "new", so that was the kicker. I got a great deal for it. And whether it's a "chick" car or not is completely subjective...

I've had a Taurus and have driven quite a few of them, including the SHO's of yesteryear. By far, this car is no Taurus...

But I digress...

So far it's been great for the one day I've had it.

FWD based car, yes. 60/40 split with the former to the rear wheels.

I could have. But, for the price I paid, I doubt I was going to find a manual 6 cylinder AWD entry lux sedan.

I'm a little brand loyal towards the brand, so that swayed me a bit. I test drove a 02 330i and while it had a better feel, I didn't like the fact that I saw quite a few while out on the test drive and not to mention I see them a helluva lot around here.

To each his own. I'll probably be the bastard child of the forum for the next week now :) But what the hell. Either way, I can dump the Expo on my fiance and let her drive it for a while so she can put up with the $60 fill ups.

I'm not hating, don't get me wrong. lol, I just happen to only like maybe one or two of Jaguar's lineup, and the X-type isn't one of them :P

Just let it load. It takes a second, unless you're on 56k because then it might take a week.

It's a humorous SNL skit featuring Will Ferrell as the spokesperson for Jag-U-ar Motorcars and a fan of luxury.

It's a car that you have to acquire a taste for. It's grown on me quite a bit. Not to mention I haven't had a car with a manual in quite some time. And I love the styling of jags, and have for years.

As much as I'd like to buy an XKR ;), my pockets won't allow for that just yet :D

As for the fiance, i've been engaged for a little while now. Been together for 5 years on the 15th.

Mondeo=Contour in the states

It's an awd SVT contour.

...and many would agree that the SVT Contour was a damn good car drives nothing like a Taurus ;)

I'm learning more and more about the car as the days go by. It's hard to launch :( and I haven't had much time to play with it like I really would like to. Handles like it's on rails tho'. Felt totally connected to the road even when it was pouring raining.

AVG MPG is around 22 combined. However, it only takes premium gas. So I'm only saving a few pennies compared to my Explorer.

Looked at a Passat W8 all motion before I bought the Jetta. If I had kids Id probably buy one the Jetta is smallish inside.

I would love to have a Passat W8 if it could be had with the manual. I don't think you can get the W8 and a manual here in the states, but it does exist.

I didn't say anything about a taurus ;)

The main thing I didn't like about the SVT contour was the shifter feel (hated it.........it was like a stick stuck in a bowl of rocks) how is it in your car?

X types got cheap fast. Can't blame you for buying one.

The shifter/shifting is odd. It feels crappy(like a bucket of rocks) if you're shifting like a granny, but if you're shifting quick under hard acceleration, it's a lot smoother.

They did get cheap rather quickly. But I was only going to buy it if I could find a X-Type Sport model, which I did. The lux models with the chrome don't look nearly as good as those with the Sport models. And cost about the same.

I've gotten better at launching it from a dead stop. That AWD helps out a good bit, but it runs out of steam in the middle of third gear. Hopefully some bolt ons sometime down the road will help.

There are 11 6spds on autotrader in the whole country. The auto I drove was an $11k auto blue with blk leather. The cheapest manual is $16.5k. Im cheap Id go auto on a luxury car.
