2ndGen.Rocket 04-20-2008, 02:47 AM A friend of mine has fallen into some hard times recently. He never really had a good job, and the ones that he did have more or less just paid the bills and put a little cash in his pocket. He has been talking with some lawyers about declaring bankruptcy since he lost his job and is about to default on his student loans and cannot pay his rent. I wrote him a check for $2000 tonight and told him he can pay me back however he wants, as long as I get it all back within 3 months.
Honestly, I don't expect to get all of it back by then, I just felt bad for the guy and would hope that any of my friends would help me out if I ended up in a similar situation. However, what wierded me out was the fact that he started saying things like "I hope God shows himself and blesses you for this" after I gave him the money. I mean really, is that even a Godly act? I highly doubt I am going to be blessed for doing anything at all, I was just helping out a friend. I don't understand why people feel the need to say things like that. It is really not a big deal, I would expect any friend to do the same for me. Why does God have to be involved in it?
Misty Rayne 04-20-2008, 03:19 AM it would be a Karmic act i believe, you get out of this earth what you put in. The old saying "what goes around comes around" is very true, you are an amazing and generous friend :)
czarofzar 04-20-2008, 08:36 AM da dant dunt! Judge Judy! ALL RISE!
wonner 04-20-2008, 12:07 PM YZF, may I have $2000 please?
95whitepep 04-20-2008, 12:48 PM yes it is, assuming you have the right attitude of helping your friend without expecting anything in return...but the Bible also says not to be a borrower or a lender, Proverbs 22 the rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender which easily leads to corruption (welcome to the U.S. in 2008, a nation practiced in the art of debt)
I always thought of Proverbs 22 as 'dont be a borrower or a lender'...be a giver. Just give without expecting anything back...that seems to be your original intention, so you have a good heart and care about your friend.
Maybe it was easier for your friend to say that then to truly say how much he appreciates the fact that you gave him money....without the BS attached to it. ITs hard enough sucking it up and asking someone for help. Glad that he thought you were the person he could come to when he needed it.
rodney87 04-20-2008, 03:44 PM Sounds like he would like to give you something in return for the help. But being down on his luck the only thing he could come up with was wishing some good luck on you.
2ndGen.Rocket 04-20-2008, 07:55 PM Yes I'm sure he would help me out as well.
I always assumed the role of a lender was to lend and expect a gain out of it. If I lent someone money and wanted interest back on top of it, that would put me in that role. Fronting someone money for a while so they can get on their feet isn't really outright giving money to someone either.
I don't know, anyway I hope it works out for him.
Alex-7 04-20-2008, 08:50 PM Id have taken the check back if someone started saying shit like that to me.
He's hoping god blesses you because he wants you to get something outta the deal, and he knows its not gonna be your money back.
Was nice of you though.
$100T2 04-20-2008, 09:04 PM Yes I'm sure he would help me out as well.

$100T2 04-23-2008, 05:14 PM was that really necessary?
it's sad you call yourself a moderator, there are plenty of other sections for this garbage
After the way YOU talk to people, you are gonna get all righteous? I should ban you just for the irony of that.
$100T2 04-23-2008, 05:48 PM I call people weeds but I don't blaspheme God...vast difference...too bad you don't get it
Yeah, I do get it. Show me the section of the Bible that allows your atrocious behavior. You call people far worse than weeds.
skydivr7673 04-23-2008, 09:02 PM I call people weeds but I don't blaspheme God...vast difference...too bad you don't get it
I'm pretty sure that running around telling people how you will rule over all of them, and how they are to bow and worship you, falls into that category. NO ONE who walks with Christ is to take any kind of delight in such a concept for themselves, the way you do. Isnt that glory reserved for God alone? Trying to take it for yourself isnt exactly honoring or exalting God, ya know.....you DO know that, right?
skydivr7673 04-24-2008, 05:29 PM ..
