Well, I had one of my own. I woke up at 4:30 monday morning to someone pounding on my front door, and run outside to see some guy in a hard hat from Duke Energy. Behind him in the driveway is my truck, in flames. The guy asks me if I have a fire extinguisher, so I push him out of the way, run around the side of the house in my boxers, grab a hose and start spraying the shit out of it. I accidentally kicked the power line that was laying on the ground and got s small shock from whatever charge was left in the line, but managed to put out most of the fire. The fucking idiots were doing work down the block and overloaded something, which caused the breaker to explode and send a live wire down on top of my truck. Pics are attached, check out the driveway especially. That thing had so much power and heat that it literally turned the concrete into glass. Sucks now cause I've gotta take the time to fight with my insurance and Duke's insurance to get some fucking money. I just want to total the truck since half the shit under the hood is charred, and the motor was drenched with about 100 gallons of water. Hopefully will get enough to get a nice used Range Rover or something.

If you would have given it another 30 seconds then there would not have been a fight, it would have been tottled.

Sorry for the loss.

I'm not accepting if they say they want to repair it. The electrical system is going to be fucked, the motor is definitely fucked, and I'm not keeping a car that has had fire damage, I won't be able to sell it ever. If insurance says they want to repair it, I'm refusing and suing Duke Power for the cost of a replacement, plus whatever other damages. My room mate just bought a 2006 350Z that was parked 2 feet in front of my truck, if I let the fire go any further it would have hit a fuel line and fucked his car up, and probably my house as well.

Right now I have a crotch rocket as a back up, I've been riding to class in a suit on a CBR for the past 2 days, like an asshole. Duke just comped me a rental car till everything is straight though, it's the fucking least they could do.

08-29-2006, 05:28 PM
um... that's crazy. that shit is definitely Duke's fault. i hope it works out for you.

With or without a tie? If you wore a tie, dude that's not an asshole, that's freaking awesome, so long as it flails behind you. A tinted helmet and briefcase net you extra points.

THEY are renting YOU a car?! Dude... kick its ass.

Brooks Brothers pinstripe suit with tie flailing behind me, a mirror tinted helmet, and a Dell laptop briefcase strapped over my shoulder. Damn, you called that one good.

Yeah, they got me an orange chevy cobalt. I will do a daily log of how many corners I slide it around if I get the time.

my only question is why in gods name did you try and hose down an electrical fire?

Loss of a pickup is more acceptable then loss of life. Toys can be replaced.

It wasnt an electrical fire. They had turned off the power and moved the line out of the way, by the time I got out there it was just my truck burning

I drive a cement mixer, I had NO idea you could turn it into glass!

I guess it makes sense though.

I think they'll total your truck, it's probably fucked. If not, they are going to cut you a cheque for quite a lot to fix that shit... Damn.

Next time this happens though (unless it's an rx7, then save it no matter what!)- just keep your head about you and be like "damn"

if that had been my pickup I woulda been like "fuck that shit, there's a power wire" especially if you got zapped too!
Nothing wrong with riding to school/work in a suit, I used to do it all the time.

And nothing wrong with your only backup being an rx7, my daily driver is a beat-up '93 FD and it hasn't stranded me yet.

sue them for the driveway damage too, then spend the money on something other than a stupid driveway and keep the glass driveway to show it off. its a win win scenario! (for you)

Yeah I probably wouldn't have gone all gung ho and tried to put it out with the hose. I probably would have called the fire dept. and waited for them to do it. Although I'm sure 2ndgenrocket had his adrenaline going and that stuff makes you do crazy things.

yeah, when you see something you own on fire it's a pretty big rush and results in some sort of action. Plus, my buddy is absolutely in love with his new car, if that fire hit a fuel line and exploded, he brand new ride would have been fucked. He waited a good 2 months to have that car built to his exact specs and would have likely cried.

Its all good now. Insurance paid me $200 less than I bought the truck for 3 years ago. Can't complain about that investment.

Sorry to hear about the BS your hving to go through.

I hope I'm not the only one...but you are no "Lemonade" at all. you suck at burning trucks. You'll be lucky to get it salvaged.

Go catch more of it on fire......who will know?

All is good. I am going to pick up my new ride tomorrow, 2000 Range Rover Sport. Air suspension, 18 inch fatory wheels, fully loaded, charcoal leather interior with burled walnut dash, navigation, and a 300 watt Harmon Kardon sound system. The whole thing worked out pretty damn well if you ask me.

I bought it, the thing is in pristine condition. No leaks anywhere, perfect interior, air suspension operates perfectly, as does 4 wheel drive and every other amenity in it.

Not yet. So far the only 4 wheeling its seen involves hopping medians to avoid traffic.

Look who it is.

Range rovers are an increadable buy. A five year old 70k$ suv for the same price as a three year old civic is hard to beat.

It's amaizing what they'll do off road for as nice as they are on.

I've been driving a disco 2 lately and getting about 11mpg. good times. Hope you don't have much of a commute.

It's amazing what those stock form disco's can do offroad. How does the LR3 compare to the disco?

The LR3 is still a bit too new for me to mess with. I probably won't get one for another year or two.

I like the way they look though (it's grown on me)

Say No To Pistons
11-17-2006, 05:18 PM
LR3 plastic moldings and bumpers look a little outdated IMO, especially for a Land Rover that costs over 50k. I was wondering if it can compare with the Disco when it comes to offroading.

Alex-7
11-17-2006, 05:55 PM
No clue. I've quit paying attention to new cars untill they trickle down into my market. Which rovers do very quickly.

I'm sure they're still competent off road. Just in a higher tech way, with air bags and traction control replacing lifts and diff lockers ect.....

The disco was a bit of a dinosaur even when it was new. The series one is nearly identical underneath to the oriiginal range rover (circa 1970) with only styling and gadgetry updates. along with constant refreshing of the GM sourced (and scraped) V8.
