For one, the trooper showed up to court. I wanted to say 'hi,' but I wasn't sure he was the same trooper that pulled me over. When I went to check in, the the court officer was too old and too deaf to hear me. I was shouting my last name at him in the courtroom and he still couldn't hear. Finally, I pulled out my court notice and showed it to him.
I waited about ten minutes before the Judge came in. She was a nice middle aged lady. Another chick came in and did the, "all rise" thingy just like they do on TV.
Apparently 80 in a 55 was actually a five point violation! The prosecutor offered to knock it down to 69 in a 55, which is a two pointer with a $200 fine. The prosecutor commented that I was 'the fastest asshole in the whole court house.' After that, I figured I wasn't getting off with no points so instead of arguing, I just took it. After I talked to the prosecutor, the trooper left, so I guess it was the trooper who pulled me over.
Other then that, it's pretty ho-hum. The judge gives a speech that she probably gives everyday about everyone's rights and crap. She called my ticket number and I went up to testify. She asked me if I knew what the charge against me was. I said yes. Then she noted the prosecutor was willing to knock it down to a lower offense and asked if I understood that. I said yes. Then she asked me how I plead. I pleaded guilty. She fined me $200 + $33 in court costs and told me to sit in the front row.
She called the next guy and bitched at him for getting three speeding tickets in three years. She fined him like $600 bucks for a lesser violation! Ouch. Anyway, the court officer escorted us out of the court room as she was calling the next person.
Oh, and if you are ever in the Secaucus NJ Municipal Courthouse for any reason, they take Mastercard but not Visa.
