So I got this email from the engineering department at school, kind of a weekly bulletin. Trane is recruiting for sales engineers, which I guess is a position for engineers trained in sales.
This caught my eye:
"The rewards of a career in sales engineering with Trane are varied, and offer the opportunity to achieve the goals you have established for yourself. A chance to fully utilize your engineering background and the opportunity to interact with people having backgrounds similar to yours - mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, building owner/developers, industrialists and architects.
The chance to schedule your own time — Trane sales engineers have little, if any, overnight travel. Finally, the ability to earn an income directly related to your effort — Trane sales engineers enjoy an income that ranks them in the top 10% of all engineers in this country."
Damn, that's not too shabby. I know of at least one HS educated car salesman in this little 50k pop. town I live in making ~$80k averaged over the past few years.
Anyone here employed in sales?

I'm in technical sales/bus dev. .......... software/middleware side.
I've done hardware and e-commerce as well.
E-commerce was fun during the boom. it wasn't uncommon for a few people to make $30,000/month from insane commision checks.
The average was $15k/month.
Bottom-feeders were $8k/month.
and that didn't include the $50-80k/year base salary.
Oh, did I mention the stock options?
But a good SE can easily make $150k/year.
Wow, that's great, thanks for the info.

BTW, another good thing about sales, is that a good CPA can get u roughly 10% break on income tax since they can write/deduct many items like computers, cell phone, internet, car, dinners, etc. that are "sales related"
As to the details, I will neither confirm nor deny that I have authorized such said practices. Please consult an adroit CPA with regards to the aforementioned.........
