SpartanTS 11-21-2004, 12:58 PM I hope I don't come off like jxke did when he was asking about f/i options, but honestly, I do need some advice.
I have a Iron block 2.2L OHV engine, good for a whopping 120 HP and 135 lb/ft of torque. I would like to increase that to about 200 HP and hopefully retain stock internals if possible.
I don't want to go with nitrous, but if that would be a better option going the n/a route with nitrous, then maybe I would do that instead.
Any advice?
Cosby 11-21-2004, 01:10 PM As far as I am concerned, it is just a matter of personal preference. a little t25 or t3 might do the trick. obviously you'd need intake, exhaust, ic, etc
SpartanTS 11-21-2004, 01:16 PM I was wondering whether I could put together a junkyard turbo setup. Get a turbo off an older GM car and pick up everything else as I go along.
I've seen a kit for my car, but it's $3,000. Don't really want to spend that much. Junkyard parts possibly?
Talon4x4 11-21-2004, 01:54 PM hell go subaru junkyard shopping get the turbo and the few of the exhaust parts and flanges... ull need a cuttin torch and a few shortwell sockets and an extension. and for those hard to unlock bolts... i used the intake flow converter and put it on my socket wrench and everything came out... there easy to get to but... no intercooler... small turbos that will be just right for ya. i went and got 4 out of a junkyard theys till spool great and everything internal wastegate and waterfloating bearings along w/ an oil feed. then go to your local exhaust shop and get sum pipes bent for your setup but make sure its the machine that doesnt crimp the pipe.
Cosby 11-21-2004, 02:40 PM ...
Subaru turbos are tiny but they'll spool quick. Anything in the t25 range would probably be a nice start for you.
N1XRR 11-21-2004, 03:45 PM I agree. T-25 would probably be great for around 200hp.
For a computer, you can just use an additional injector controller with a 340-460cc or so sized injector. Its not the best setup, but it should get the job done.
SpartanTS 11-21-2004, 04:19 PM Just thinking about some numbers, but if I got 200HP to the wheels, i'd be good for a high 14 second 1/4 mile time low 15's worst case scenario.
My car only weighs 2676 pounds unloaded. With my usually subs and myself, that would add about 200 pounds.
I think I need to start buying parts

Cosby 11-21-2004, 10:17 PM email them and get the specs on the turbo
HTM Impreza WRX 11-22-2004, 12:14 AM the wrx has a td04L...i've got about 300 at the crank @ 18 lbs of boost...and w/ tuning people are getting about 340 at the crank on the same boost. so a subaru turbo would get you to what you want w/ about 13 lbs. but i don't know if your car can take that w/o changing to at least a thicker head gastket.
SpartanTS 11-22-2004, 11:21 AM I agree. T-25 would probably be great for around 200hp.

So in addition to the parts needed for the turbo setup, i'll need bigger injectors and a boost controller, such as S-AFC?
SpartanTS 11-22-2004, 11:22 AM email them and get the specs on the turbo
I just e-mailed them, i'm waiting on the specs as I type.
HTM Impreza WRX 11-22-2004, 11:40 AM the most important thing is fuel and how you're gonna control it...you're gonna need another injector at the VERY minimum. Stand alone is best...but you're gonna need a SAFC(or something like it) and something to retard your timing...such as a msd
Cosby 11-23-2004, 01:11 AM probably has a dizzy
boost controller isnt really essential
some fuel management will be, whether you want to do it electronically or with a ghetto way like rising rate fpr
SpartanTS 11-23-2004, 10:16 AM Specs on the Turbo:
Thanks for contacting Cavalier Connection. The turbo kit for the 2.2L and 2200 comes with a Garrett T3 Super 60, capable of up to 20psi. Also, as a general rule you'll get 10 horsepower for every 1 pound of boost.
HTM Impreza WRX 11-23-2004, 12:05 PM that's a pretty large compressor side for a stock n/a motor. i'd say you'll spool around 3700 rpm's or so unless it's ball bearing.
it should be a lot more than 10 hp/psi btw
Cosby 11-23-2004, 01:16 PM They didnt say anything about the hot side
HTM Impreza WRX 11-24-2004, 01:31 AM my guess was a t3 exhaust side w/ a super 60 compressor side...which is a fairly large setup.
Cosby 11-24-2004, 02:07 AM t3s have an abundance of a/rs
HTM Impreza WRX 11-24-2004, 07:41 AM i guess you're right
preludedude 11-25-2004, 12:02 AM the wrx has a td04L...i've got about 300 at the crank @ 18 lbs of boost...and w/ tuning people are getting about 340 at the crank on the same boost. so a subaru turbo would get you to what you want w/ about 13 lbs. but i don't know if your car can take that w/o changing to at least a thicker head gastket.
300 at the crank..how much is lost after it finally hits the pavement? 227 is stock right? is that crank/wheel, etc?

HTM Impreza WRX 11-25-2004, 01:18 AM w/ the mods i have and no tuning as of yet...most people w/ my setup(if not similar) are getting around 230(depending on the dyno) at the wheels. i used crank because he has fwd which has less drivetrain loss
Chipster 11-25-2004, 07:11 AM supercharge it! thats what im doing
SpartanTS 11-26-2004, 06:49 PM supercharge it! thats what im doing
I think i'll have everyone agree with me that "psssssssssssh" sounds a lot better than a supercharge whine. :)
Chipster 11-26-2004, 07:42 PM but gotta love the torque curve with an SC
HTM Impreza WRX 11-26-2004, 10:44 PM SC can have a BOV
Cosby 11-27-2004, 03:25 AM yeah, sure can
