breckboarder55 02-14-2006, 07:55 PM yeah title says it, im thinkin of getting a gun in the next couple of months... nothing fancy or ecxpensive. Just somethign to take to a range a couple times a year. and hell i live in houston wouldnt hurt for protection eather.. what do you guys think i should start looking for? AmishBoy 02-14-2006, 08:36 PM A Glock 17 is a nice all around pistol. http://www.planetfortress.com/tf2models/previews/Northern%20Conflitcts/glock17render4.jpg AmishBoy 02-14-2006, 08:51 PM http://www.hoboes.com/pub/Firearms/Technical%20Details/Glock/Glock%2017%20-%20256%20Grays.gif wonner 02-14-2006, 09:14 PM My roommate has a Kahr P9 and he loves it; fairly cheap and reliable. jimlab 02-15-2006, 12:25 AM what do you guys think i should start looking for?A single action revolver. Loading bullets one at a time makes you think pretty hard about wasting them when they're in the gun. Focus on shooting accurately before you buy something with a big clip that lets you waste bullets as fast as you can pull the trigger. .22 caliber because it's cheap to shoot and you won't develop a flinch while you're learning. .38 is also a good choice for a first pistol, assuming this is your first. For home protection, there's only one logical choice; .45 ACP. I've owned several Glocks and while they look neat and are fairly accurate, there's a reason why they're number one on the list for self-inflicted gunshot wounds by law enforcement officers. jimlab 02-15-2006, 12:44 AM I'd at least go with a double action revolverWhy? Double-action shots are typically far less accurate and most people end up using a double-action revolver or automatic the same way they would a single-action pistol. The only major differences are more parts to clean, loading time, and the higher price. single action is just too slow for self defenseOnly if you can't hit anything... jimlab 02-15-2006, 11:12 AM Wow, it took you three posts to brag yourself up this time. I think you're slipping. Breckboarder55, you should take everything Mark posts with a grain of salt... or three. He's not only high on himself, he's also full of shit.
