Supper 01-13-2006, 10:14 AM OK, so I'm going to spare all of you and not post this pic. The resolution I currently have saved is 6000x6000, downloading the 18000x18000 version ATM, 385.1 mb  anyway: The Hubble Space Telescope has just completed its most detailed observation of M42 yet. I should print that out here on the wide format printer and frame it :) vrooom305 01-13-2006, 10:27 AM is there a big difference in a quality between the jpg format and the tiff format? Supper 01-13-2006, 10:27 AM That's a nice picture. I should print that out here on the wide format printer and frame it :) thats already been discussed: "According my friend in photography, the 18000x18000 pic can make a fine print 12ftx12ft in 300dpi. That's pretty huge for a wallpaper. But he said it'll cost about $300-$400 for a professional print that size..." Supper 01-13-2006, 10:33 AM is there a big difference in a quality between the jpg format and the tiff format? yes. tiff is "lossless compression", jpeg uses a compression algorithm to minimize loss. blah blah, read up here: http://www.tawbaware.com/maxlyons/jpegcomp.htm Supper 01-13-2006, 10:37 AM another quote about the differences between TIFF, RAW, and JPEG To be exact, RAW _is_ compressed but it's compression without dataloss unlike Jpeg. RAW is like ZIP; the informationless part of the file is compressed which results a non dataloss file which can then be uncompressed to TIFF. Jpeg is both compressed and converted with an algorythm which takes some "unimportant" information out from the picture data. Don't get mixed up with compression and conversion ;) SpartanTS 01-13-2006, 10:48 AM thats already been discussed: Printing it on Matte Paper right now at 20x20 :D Gonna get it framed this weekend at the Parent's Art Gallery. This is gonna look really good. Supper 01-13-2006, 10:53 AM I'll probably print it at 6000x6000. I'll try to get it done today and post some pics. Also, it won't cost me one penny ;) It's nice to have these kinds of resources at work so why don't you print me a couple and send em my way? whats the largest you can print? I'm looking at getting a photo I took this last summer printed, it wound up being something like 12' long and 4' tall IIRC. vrooom305 01-13-2006, 10:55 AM I still can't tell the difference in quality, but I'm downloading the full tiff anyway. NOTE: it would a kick ass wallpaper on a 20+ wide screen monitor :bigthumb: SpartanTS 01-13-2006, 11:11 AM so why don't you print me a couple and send em my way? whats the largest you can print? I'm looking at getting a photo I took this last summer printed, it wound up being something like 12' long and 4' tall IIRC. I'm printing mine at 20x20 so I can put it in a nice frame and put it on my wall in my home office. I can print one for you as large as you like.
