Manntis 08-10-2005, 12:17 AM Saskatoon has a gorgeous park on both sides of the river splitting downtown from the upper-middle-class neighbourhood across the way, and it was to this park, on the downtown side next to the castle-like old CN hotel (now a Delta) that I took my son for a picnic.
Since he's not yet 5 months it was just another bottle for him, but a nice turkey sandwich for me as I sat next to him on the blanket. He can't really sit up that well on his own yet, so he lay there looking up - and got a huge smile on his face.
He's normally a happy kid, but this was the sort of smile he gets when seeing something new and kinda cool - so I figured there was a plane going by high overhead, or a bird fluttering by, or something. I lay in the grass next to him and saw what he saw....
...no bird or plane overhead, no lost balloon flying away, just the blue sky and a few clouds as seen through the branches and leaves of the tree overhead. And it made me smile too.
I can't remember when the last time was that I just lay in the grass in a beautiful, treed park on a summer's day and looked up at the sky. What my son was seeing with such wonder for the first time, I had seen many times as a child and had been taking for granted as an adult.
It's astonishing how just a few minutes of observing just the grass below and sky above can make an entire day seem amazing.

True.
Im not an asshole, but get your flame suit on.
Hades12 08-10-2005, 05:22 AM Some of the best days I have had were after watching the sun come up. Nothing better then then getting up early on a beach trip to watch it come out of the ocean.
Say No To Pistons 08-10-2005, 05:27 AM i cant stand laying on grass. im always worried some bug, centipede, ant, or whatever might crawl onto my head.
edit: then again. yeah, that seems great and relaxing for other people.
some of the best days are just sitting back and watching your kids run around and play.
2ndGen.Rocket 08-10-2005, 07:36 AM Word. I was ripping my bike around on some country roads Sunday night and decided to pull over near this big field and watch the sunset. I forgot how nice it is to just sit and let your mind go where ever it wants to while standing in awe.
Oh, but I wouldn't pull that laying on the grass shit down here. You're bound to get eaten by some crazy ass bug.
Say No To Pistons 08-10-2005, 07:45 AM ^^word. i love riding my bike by the bay for a hour or two by myself. relaxes you and gives you time to think about things.
That's the reason I'm getting all giddy about fall. It's the time of year I can get up before dawn, climb into a stand and hunker down while the air is dark and sharp, the breeze is cool and the sounds of dawn have yet to arrive.
Then as the dawn breaks- you can see every sliver of light rising, watch the mist forming on the creek and listen to the creatures begin to stir..
Then I frekkin' smash an arrow in some unsuspecting buck and gut his ass by the creek.
**sniiiifffff** ahhh....... Ain't it grand!!

BlackRX7Turbo 08-10-2005, 04:51 PM ^^^ Holy crap... those things are huge! At first, before reading your desciption, I thought it was a small bear!
2ndGen.Rocket 08-10-2005, 06:29 PM Please tell me that you know the guy on the left

No, I don't. He is the owner of the 'hunt club' in GA. It is some of the best boar hunting from what I'm told. The guy on the right, sitting on the truck (face not in the picture), that's Pancake. He's my daughters Godfather. He benches around 475. He ain't 'fat'.
Lenny, the guy who bow shot that 400lb+ bruiser hog, is also a friend of mine.
This ain't no lie. Pancake SHOT that hog TWICE with 00 buckshot. It bounced off of him like BB's on armor plate. Lenny came in with his bow and sent two Montec 125gr solid broadheads through the sucker and dropped him.
That red-headed hillbilly said it was one of the biggest hogs taken off his property in a while.

that was awsome(seriously), but it would have blowed a big load if a bird had split a drop or two.
$100T2 08-11-2005, 12:22 PM Manntis, I couldn't agree with you more... Nothing is more fun for me than watching my son discover new things.
I just got him some new Tonka trucks for his sandbox... He's gonna go buck wild with 'em this weekend.
