You will pray to God and if your request is just, God may consider granting your wish.

And if your reward has never became a realization, then perhaps God must have felt 'yours' was not worthy enough to grant. Surely not at your requested speed.

Tell me then, my Christan friends, why even believe in a god when the important things are ignored??

Of course I'll give you all the more time you need to think about this.

God can't answer prayers if he is not real.

the question obviously perplexed even the xtain champion. usually we'd see him barreling in here, with both guns blazing. I wonder how many atheists I made just with this thread alone? I bet plenty.

There is a reason the atheist population is growing every year.

czarofzar

what other land were they referring to? I can bet you my life it wasn't Hawaii. And still you or your friends pray for other things besides total destruction of non god believers and god believers who worshiped poorly. What do you pray for mark?

how often does the Bible speak about "waiting upon the Lord"?

for example, Psalm 37

For evildoers shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the LORD,
They shall inherit the earth.
For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more;
Indeed, you will look carefully for his place,
But it shall be no more.
But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

what on earth can you praise a god for?

Turbo II Rotor

Everything, duh. People even say grace before they eat food, when they went to work all day to make money to buy that food. I'll say grace when I'm sitting on the couch and a delicious steak pops up out of no where.

when I pray (which is not enough), it's usually praise...the same model as the Psalms and the prophets...that's true worship, God is not a cosmic genie waiting to give you what you want, the prayer life of even many professing Christians is self obsessed and incredibly shallow

So you basically tell God he's wonderful?

czarofzar

how can you praise a being for destroying his own creation. Not merely stomping on the sand castle that was once built by said creator but to sit a flame thrower on the sand to burn burn burn. that is slightly demented.

now back to praying. is praying the same as praising?

i don't think i can qualify myself as a true believer of anything. but i do feel i get results from prayer the few times i have prayed.

sometimes i even start it off with, "i know i'm an ass for only praying when i need shit."

when God destroys, He can just as easily create again

Matthew 3

...but when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

doesn't answer 'why praise?'
also, is prayer the same as praise?

even if you never prayed, do you feel these events that your wished for would have happened anyway?

when you pray, do you actually say things like 'good job making the food for my body'?

czarofzar

ha, no, I already stated how I pray

yes you did however i have a question to your prayer...

when I pray (which is not enough), it's usually praise...the same model as the Psalms and the prophets...that's true worship, God is not a cosmic genie waiting to give you what you want, the prayer life of even many professing Christians is self obsessed and incredibly shallow

The thing about praying for something is this--the whole concept is that God knows what each of us really needs, and we dont. For example, look at all the people who pray to win the lottery. Do you have any idea how much worry and headache comes with wealth? People who suddenly come into money usually want more, it is never enough and becomes greed. Or, they spend it all and end up worse off than they were before they got the money. God knows what we all need. So, when you pray and ask for illness to be healed, or to meet that one special person, did it ever occur to anyone here that you may not yet be ready for that to happen? Suppose someone prays to meet that one woman, but their own life is a mess? Finances are shot to hell, they cant keep a job, too much baggage to bring into that one right relationship, no? Perhaps the fact that they didnt get what they prayed for is an indication that they arent ready to handle getting it yet.

Or, perhaps it is an indication that their life is supposed to go in a different direction entirely. here's the thing guys--when it comes to things you want, if youre supposed to get them you will, and if youre not, then you wont. If you pray about it and it isnt in the plan for you then you wont get it. Praying isnt like an online shopping service or something.

Then, there are things that a person needs to experience to get to the other side. I wouldnt wish cancer on anyone, not even marky....and I prayed for healing. But it still took quite a bit before things began to look up. Some things need to happen because there is a lesson in there. Simply taking away the illness will make the person thankful, perhaps for a short time, maybe longer. But standing at their side while they go through it and come out the other side a different person is far more powerful--it can teach far more than just "thanks".

our father thout in heaven, hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as in heaven, give us our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen

thats the one alright. if Jesus is god, then does it not make since to follow Jesus' word on how to pray? sounds like you can pray away without praise. ask for god to fucking feed you, god damn it, because it is all you can do as a starving tiny child. but since there isn't a god, your prayers go unanswered. and if there is a god, he wasted everyone's time by telling you to ask for him to feed you cus apparently, according to BX7 and some Peter passage, god is too busy keeping his precious time table then to worry about some fucking dumb ass nig who is starving in Africa.

again, the Lord's prayer is a framework, it's not a ritual....the Lord goes on to condemn those who mindlessly recite stuff

the lord didn't say framework. your brainwashing friends did. you parrot them and I laff all the time when you get it wrong. teeheeeeeeee

.the Lord goes on to condemn those who mindlessly recite stuff

"The genesis account is literal"
"The earth is only 6k years old"
"I'm the eagle among turkeys"
"destined to hell"
"you will be humbled"

that is, recite ritualistic type prayers, with what the Lord calls "vain repetition"...however, prayerfully recounting the truth and attributes of God is always part and parcel of true worship...there is a vast difference between the vain repetition of catholics, many Jews, and Muslims, with true prayer and true worship...you certainly wouldn't know because I doubt you've ever worshipped God, you're outside

I've never "worshipped" anything ...

But I do and have worshiped Jesus. Go get a spell checker....
