What do you guys think of this Idea ?

I originaly wanted to drop in a sr20det, but it would be a while befor I could swing that.

Heres another idea thats been kinda kicking around in my head for a while..

What about a z31turbo powered 240sx ?

theres been several swaps done and there is a company that sales the engine mounts i would need...
And i figure i could find a good vg30det/tranny/computer combo for around 500 dollars from a junk yard. Dump a few more hundred in it, replace some stuff, polish some stuff, boost some stuff.. you get the idea..

who is in favor?

hey...that was my idea

I say go for it. I can get your head port and polished for prolly nothing.

from my understanding the tranny for the z31 is EXTREMELY hard to find in the turbo version, and is pretty expensive. More than the $500 that you were talking about spending. Though, i may be wrong, but that's my understanding

No ofence but your wrong. Back when I had the second 87 300z, I torn the tranmission out of it, and I found a 86 turo tranny for 200 dollars rebuilt.

VG30 would be less expensive, faster and easier with just as much potential.

i do believe that can be remedied...besides, r u gonna be putting 1000 hp out? nooo, i believe that the STOCK RB26DETT is putting out more hp than 300, which means it's reliable...hell in korea on a 2.0 litre hyundai motor, they are gettint 400, 450 whp on stock internals...so, that doesn't mean s***...and it's reliable too!

Hey jonathan didn't you just replace the engine in the tiburon?

And what kind of horse power are you running at the wheels?...130.

har har har

Hightach Tibby

more than that at the time, but i didnt' HAVE *to replace it...they could have rebuilt it, but those were different circumstances. All I did was throw a rod. *I chose to replace for more displacement, and also my parents shelled out the $$$ and dealer installation. *Also it was MY DAD's AND MY fault, because of not maintaining it as I/we should have. *That's over now, and it won't happen again for a long time <knock on wood>

ALL you did? haha. Yeah. That's all.

Oh yeah and the internals of a VG30 will handle more than 300 horses. It's the supply of fuel that needs some upgrading and only handles up to 300hp. Hey allen. Morgan on z31.com has ~500hp on his stock internals.

Hightach Tibby
03-01-2002, 02:22 PM
unless the engine comes w/ 10k cc injectors, etc., your gonna have to upgrade the fuel system.

Corban
03-01-2002, 03:13 PM
What's that?

(Of course if you repeat what I said you'll be right.)

i can gaurantee that a rb TT engine putting out 750 horse power will NOT be reliable for every day street driving. How ever a lightly modofied VG can easily run 300 horses and be driven every day.

When you look at the price to power ratio, the fact i cant afford to be repairing a skyline engine with JDM parts every thing some tihng goes south, IMO, the vg is the better way to go.

LinsKE10

this is jonathan...i can't log off of lindsay's name...so i'm giving up.

The RB26DETT has WAY more potential, and more SAFE, drivable, and RELIABLE, hp. Signal auto will tune it to 750 hp reliably. and it's daily driveable. now since it is reliable, and comes w/ the tranny and driveshafts when you do the swap, what's so bad about that. That engine comes "stock" w/ 350 hp. That VG30 isnt' looking so hot w/ it's potential.

i'll leave it there...that's enough said...i've clarified how it is a stronger engine w/ more potential...after all, it's the skyline engine! and that should be enough. How much did you say chris....300 reliable hp...ha, 300 vs 750 reliable. hmm, not a hard choice, and it's a smaller engine, so it won't through his weight ratio off.

Stegall
03-07-2002, 03:35 PM
What ever Jonothan. It wouldnt be reliable. Besides your missing the etire point.. With my " Power to price ratio " theory. The vg is the better way to go. Maybe if I was Cli, er, not worried about money, that would be the way to go. But for under 1000, i could easily have a VG powered 240 that was reliable, easy to get parts for, i could work on it my self, and would be faster than any tiburon you'll ever own...

All in good fun.

My theory of " Power to Price " favors the vg30det
