Vert8813B 11-18-2008, 08:53 PM I just did an insurance quote on a new car with Geico.
Evidently, when I reveal a speeding violation I got back in 2004 I am less of a liability than when I don't mention it in the quote (lower premium by 2 dollars every 6 months). How the heck does that make any sense at all?
They also say to mention any incidents within the last 5 years but as far as I know, the incidents only stay on my license as far as points go for 1.5 years and I believe it's NY law that violations are only factored in for insurance for 3 years.
Wtf...
I'm considering a Honda Fit. Does that make me gay?
rtryb2200 11-18-2008, 09:31 PM yep.....and really who cares about 2 dollars
Vert8813B 11-18-2008, 09:42 PM I don't but would you expect your insurance to be cheaper with or without a ticket?
Stanello 11-19-2008, 05:32 AM I was getting quotes on motorcycle ins a while back. One quote was $12,000 for the year, another was 16 dollars for the year.
Tofuball 11-19-2008, 05:34 AM $12K? For that price, an agent better follow you in a tank and run people off the road who get too close to you.
Tofuball 11-19-2008, 05:39 AM I'm considering a Honda Fit. Does that make me gay?
Yes, but not because it's a Honda Fit, but be cause it's a new car and new cars are terrible investments.

For serious. The quote was more than the damn bike was worth. I'm convinced that there is no logic behind insurance quotes.

I kinda get that feeling too...

So is fixing up a 13 year old car...

They can give more accurate estimates if you give more detailed information.
Tofuball 11-19-2008, 06:52 AM So is fixing up a 13 year old car...
False!
Herschel 11-19-2008, 07:05 AM I was getting quotes on motorcycle ins a while back. One quote was $12,000 for the year, another was 16 dollars for the year.
Holy ass rape Batman......How old are you and how many accidents/tickets do you have on your record? I pay a little over $600 a year for full coverage with all the bells and whistles on an '08 GSXR. In all fairness though, Progressive wanted around $3,000 per year so I went to State Farm and they couldn't figure out why Progressive had quoted me that high. Even the Progressive agent was dumbfounded by that quote. I have an emaculate record, no accidents, and I'm over 25 years old so I just couldn't understand 3 grand a year.
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 07:18 AM False!
True. Stop being a heeb. :blah:
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 07:20 AM They want 606 dollars (or 608 without the speeding violation) for 6 months for full coverage on a financed Honda Fit. I pay 360 every 6 months now with just the minimum + Full Glass coverage and no deductible on the glass. Bastards!
oakback 11-19-2008, 07:23 AM They assume everyone has some sort of violation, so those that say "none" are lying, and get charged more. Geico hates dishonest people.
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 07:25 AM Wtf though...I seriously have no fucking moving violations since 2004.
rtryb2200 11-19-2008, 07:27 AM I'm so glad I grew up and bought a house, got married, and realized having a brand new or almost new vehicle really isn't worth it. My insurance on my truck 4 years ago was about 900 every 6 months after my accident. 7 year old car with liability runs me 67 dollars ever 6 months
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 07:29 AM 67 dollars every 6 months? You pay around 11 bucks a month in insurance?
rtryb2200 11-19-2008, 08:39 AM yup
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 08:57 AM Wow. I pay around 60 some dollars a month now on one of these old cars you speak of with just liability and comprehensive glass coverage sans deductible. New York also has I think the 2nd highest auto insurance rates in the country; behind New Jersey.
rtryb2200 11-19-2008, 09:30 AM I am also older married and own a house...those things make me look responsible to an insurance company. I have been booted from 3 different insurance companies in the past, because of my driving record...been clean for a little over 4 years now
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 09:32 AM True on age, marriage and house ownership. I've never been given the boot and have no accidents. ~100 a month for full coverage on a new car isn't too bad compared to what I pay now IMO.
Tofuball 11-19-2008, 09:45 AM Location is almost everything.
wotnartd 11-19-2008, 01:38 PM I'm under my parents' insurance plan, but have my own coverage. And When I have both cars insured, it's $95 a month. I have the FB covered in gold for insurance, classic car, this and they won't total it out unless it really is wrecked, that. Now insurance is off of it for winter and I'm paying... $40 a month on a 13 year old car with good safety ratings. Unfortunately, I have two moving violations, so I'm paying like $7 more every six months.
I'm also 21 years old, unmarried, and live in Waupaca County (we have high deer collision rates here).
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 01:54 PM New York has liberal politicians here. They are worse than deer.

At least deer get the general idea to stay out of the road.
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 02:03 PM Very true.

Unfortunately you can not hit liberal politicians with your car without going to jail. Unlike deer when you hit and kill them you can throw them on your roof and keep going on your way

Unless they crack your radiator...
Vert8813B 11-19-2008, 05:41 PM You can hit liberal politicians with your car here. New York has a pretty lenient insanity defense. :D

I'm 21 with one speeding ticket. I honestly don't know why that quote was so high. Maybe a combo of my zip and the bike or something. Quote was for a Buell XB12Scg. 2006IIRC.
czarofzar 11-19-2008, 09:02 PM insurance normal here.
