In spite of the avalanche of publications triggered by the rumors that the US is going to gift the Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier to India in return for the promise to buy F-18, serious sources express assuredness that for India the deal on Gorshkov being upgraded by Sevmash even with the on-going financial problems is a far better choice. First and foremost: Russia is ready to share its latest technologies, which can become the basis for India’s own defense industries comparable with those of the US. In its turn US is interested just in some additional profit through selling older stuff. It is out of the question that US would give away its fifth generation technologies to anybody else. Even the closest allies like Israel and the UK are offended by the reluctance of the US to share the JSF technologies, for example.

Anyone else offended by it? I could give a fuck. I understand what America's good exports are, weapons and....white women. If this makes them buy more weapons that fine with me.

Go for it...now our Sailors and Marines won't have to endure that P.O.S.. Maybe we can pawn our F-14s off on Iran; they've got a bunch of them just collecting dust due to no replacement parts.

Yea, it ticks me off....

Even our shitty stuff is bleeding edge to other countries.
How much has our rocket launchers in Afghanistan screwed with us....Chinese made replacement batteries for them so their shelf life didn't expire.

Maybe theyll put all indias phone telemarketers on board. We'll just have to find a dolphin with a tape torpedo on its back.

It's gotta be on the dolphin's nose, to hit the primer. But don't worrry, if you just make an exploding dolphin, some woman would pick it up and blow up.

India is not exactly behind the power curve when it comes to technology... they have some stuff that even WE wish we could get our hands on.. If we gave it to them for free it would be saving us the money needed to decommission it. Hell, the only reason we still have it around is because Japan is leery about having a nuclear carrier in her ports. It *would* have been junked long ago if not for this reason.

Just turn it into a museum. It's the USS Kitty Hawk, wasn't that the launching platform for a lot of our sorties during Gulf War I? Or give it to Israel...lol. On second thought, maybe not.

And don't forget the F-4s they have too.

I don't care about the carrier, it's the F18's that I'm more worried about. Will they be getting phoenix missiles? That's still a very effective weapon and one that our electronic countermeasures aren't fully capable of dealing with. 100 mile range with the ability to track/engage like 12 targets simultaneously.

I don't know the specifics about the deal, but I don't think the US military would not sell planes that are equal to our own. And even though I am biased towards the AF, I would bet some money on any Navy pilot (aviator, yeah!) has far better training than any Indian pilot.

India...we may wash our clothes in the same water we bathe and shit in, but at least we have a super-carrier!

yeah the CV63 is like old, and if they were smart enough to give it to them to get them to buy planes, it would jsut save us money trying to mothball the damn thing.

Could this be a payoff for the US to use India to invade Pakistan?
Seems we have Pakistan surrounded now.

Stating a fact is not flaming, and I find it highly entertaining how you are so oblivious to your own hypocrisy.

We don't even share our best technology with the brits, and they are probably our strongest ally ever.

for someone who knows a certain amount more than average about the AIM-54 Phoenix, you arent very smart about the rest of the details....

The Phoenix missile was only used one one aircraft--the F-14 Tomcat. Every last Phoenix missile was taken out of service years ago, when the Tomcat's days were officially numbered. The Hornet--F-18--cannot carry the Phoenix, it never could. Also, how can a missile track/engage 12 targets at once? The RADAR SYSTEM on the Tomcat is what did that--the old AWG-9 radar system could track 24 and attack 6 at once. The missile itself could only track and engage one--the one it was locked onto before fired.

Its interesting that you could know some specific details such as the range, but not the most basic information about the topic. The longest-range air to air missile that the F-18 can carry and use is the AMRAAM, a meduim-range weapon. Its the same weapon that India most likely already has access to. Let's not forget here, India is not a backwoods country, they are a nuclear power with plenty of weapons systems of their own.

= Jane's.

For a small price you can get the basic info on most military systems, though even the classified version of what they have is watered down, and not entirely correct.

I try to avoid talking specifics when it comes to our/ally capabilities. I can't always remember what is, and isn't, peachy to chat about...

It's a game?? I was referring to a publication which has basic stats on military craft (sea, air, land, etc) from just about every nation with a standing military in the world. They produce updated books every couple years and they are NOT CHEAP. I've used them at work, but only for pictures.
