2001 IS300 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=167806082&dealer_id=67636&car_year=2001&make=LEXUS&distance=any&max_price=&model=IS300&advcd_on=n&end_year=2005&min_price=&first_record=476&address=29303&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1981&=&color=&cardist=174)

Not a bad bargain. Although the car has nearly 100k on the clock, many POS cars make it well past 200k with no major issues. This is a car that I would consider after college b/c the payment would be dirt cheap and you get a pretty nice ride that has been in the same generation for the past 5 years.

Anyhow, what do you guys think about buying used cars? I know nearly every one of us has a used/pre-owned car, so what are yall's opinions.

i bought my car for $4000... that was a steal. But I didn't have a choice really since the car I wanted isn't made anymore...

aint nothing wrong with buying used cars, just find out as much as you can about it. and if you're buying a new car, great, but i'd suggest buying them 1 year old since its basically the same thing but much much less expensive... the only way to know for sure about a car is to buy it new

I bought my car on graduation day for $8200 with 91k miles on it and in good condition :)...now, its wrecked with salvage title, rebuilt engine later, 5spd tranny later, another 40k worth of wear and tear, after I put $8200 for car and another $4k in engine, tranny swap, kit, repairs, hood, etc...I have over $12k in my car, which I could get only around $2500 for since it has a salvage title, maybe $3k if i'm lucky..

you got to hate cars...

Buy cheap and fix :)

that's what i've done. all my cars ranged in years from '73 to '76. fixed what needed it and drove them for many years, then sold them. i got more than my moneys worth out of them.

I dont see any problems with used cars, i'm actually getting ready to sell my car when i graduate and get an 01 m3, devoid of any type of system. Plans are to get payments the same as mine now, use the money from parting the system out to get some Black Radenergie R10 wheels (in my gallery), carbon fiber front lip, cleared front reflectors, 5% tint. I found a silver coupe with 46000 miles for 29k, 6 speed :)

I don't even want to know what the insurance would be on an M3, unless you get liability. It's highly unlikely that anyone would hit u anyhow :)

M3's are nice, although I wouldn't mind having an M5 right out of college. Only 1.5 years away
