1revnrex 04-05-2008, 12:20 PM Rolling Stone spoke exclusively with Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash today regarding the band’s decision to split with frontman Scott Weiland. “Everybody’s just very relieved,” Slash tells RS. “This is something that’s been coming down for a while. I know everybody is tying the STP [reunion tour] thing to it, but it started way before that. We just had a lot of commitments to fulfill, so we just had to drag this thing out until the obligations were finished. Basically, we’re just excited about finding someone else and moving on.”
As far as the search for a new frontman goes, Slash says, “There’s some people, but it’s really premature to start naming names. We actually worked with a guy, I won’t mention his name, before we left to go to the U.K. and there just wasn’t enough time to break him in, so we’re gonna work with him again some more, and maybe some other guys as well.” As for Weiland’s recommendation that the band hire former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach, Slash is unamused. “I thought [Weiland] could be a little bit more imaginative. I’m not sure if that was meant to be a pot shot or what. Whatever, it’s not worth any real drama.”
Anyone think that the real problem might actually be with Slash?

I would say yes, to a point. If you look at Scott Weiland when he was with STP he was fired for the same reason: Self Consumed Drug Addict.
Axl started to take GNR a different direction which is obvious if you listen to Appetite For Destruction and then listen to Use Your Illusion 1 and 2. All lead singers get eccentric but both of those guys were just over the top.
tr4c3 04-05-2008, 11:15 PM I wonder who the new singer will be. I haven't listened to any of the new velvet revolover, honestly, I'm not a fan of them at all, but I am curious.
Rock died with Elvis, right?
rtryb2200 04-06-2008, 01:00 AM But there is still Country
1revnrex 04-06-2008, 09:19 AM But there is still Country
Is that what they call that shit. Sounds more like Pop to me.
Try Hank Williams III.
But wasn't Elvis called the King of Rock? I just can't help thinking that if rock is truly dead as you say, then it died with him.
The real, real thing:

Rock died with Elvis, right?
It has slowly petered out since the late nineties. I used to think it was because I am getting older but I no longer think that.
Terrh 04-07-2008, 09:42 AM I have noticed that too. So many great 90's bands.
none now.
wotnartd 04-07-2008, 09:46 AM Rock died with Elvis, right?
No, when the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly died, music did, also. Didn't you ever hear the song?
As for Weiland, I've heard reports he was back with the heroin. I also heard that Slash wasn't any angel...
The point is, every generation says the same thing ("rock is dead now," or "music these days just isn't the same,") after their favourite bands have moved on. Heck, I find myself saying it from time to time as well.

I don't have a favorite, so I don't have to worry.
All music sucks, some just sucks less.
Except for NIN.
NIN sucks alot more....no harmony, very little melody

sigh, you really want to bring this up again?
melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics....beautifully represented :)

cool_as_crap 04-07-2008, 01:18 PM Trent>* - Maynard
Trent>* - Maynard
??
Trent is greater than times negative Maynard?
cool_as_crap 04-07-2008, 01:34 PM
Trent greater than all minus Maynard.
lol
My mistake. Maynard is awesome, though I still then Trent is the best.
cool_as_crap 04-07-2008, 01:47 PM No way man. I'm not very up on all of the 'musical' terms, but I know what's good and what isn't. Maynard is brilliant the way he uses his voice. I still get chills listening to his voice (no I'm not gay).
And IDK where you get the screaming from, either Trent or Maynard. Maynard has had a song or two where he is screaming, but no where near as many as Maiden, which is nothing but screaming. Maynard has so much range it's unbelievable.
cool_as_crap 04-07-2008, 01:51 PM User made video, but a very good song. This was dedicated to his mother who passed away.

BTW how do you guys do that link thing with the video just popping up?

Agreed, Maynard has one of the best voices in the business. You can criticize Trent's voice, that's fair assesment, but not Maynard.

put the link in between media tags, as in
I'll also throw "the pot" into consideration (again, please forgive the shitty anime video, some people have no class).

cool_as_crap 04-07-2008, 01:56 PM Ah cool thanks.
Yes, another great song.
your statement is simply wrong/baseless...typical ignorance
There's a fair bit of ignorance on both parts here. I've only heard 3-4 Iron Maiden songs myself, and to me, there isn't much worth liking. A baseless argument about melody and such, is hardly anyway to critique music, especially when your knowledge is considerably limited of such music. Make no mistake, there are no well crafted equations here, not for either side.
cool_as_crap 04-07-2008, 02:19 PM your statement is simply wrong/baseless...typical ignorance
No, that 'run to the hills' song you posted is definitely screaming. I'm not trying to say tool is better than maiden (which, IMO, they are of course) but I just don't see much musical talent put into maiden, especially the vocals.
As I said before, it's screaming. I can do that in the shower.
look, both you guys can stroke eachother all day long, but you were both in diapers when true rock music was popular, so your opinions honestly don't mean jack shit
I've heard all of it...from the 60s right through to the modern stuff, you only know what you've been indoctrinated with
NIN sucks, Tool sucks....end of story....it has essentially no musical value and very little talent
You've heard it all, huh? What Tool albums have you listened to? Scratch that, what Tool songs have you listened to? Actually, let me make it even easier for you, what, beyond the name of the band, do you know about Tool?
Now, you can claim all that you like that your age or experience somehow makes you more distinguished in your ability to appreciate music, or that when you state what is "real" music and what is not, that your opinions should be revered, but I'm not buying it. This is the age of the internet my friend, where anyone is capable of listening to anything. Decades of music and hundreds of genres lie beneath my fingertips, and in accessing them, I would argue that I am considerably more proficient than you. I've sampled jazz, classical, contemporary, rock and dozens of other sub-genres so I fail to see how your experience is any more valid than mine. The difference between you and I though, is that when I listen to something that I don't like, I do not feel compelled to proclaim that it isn't real music and that the opinions of those who would disagree are worthless.
yes, but until you have carefully listened to them all with an open mind, it doesn't mean much, that's like saying I have access to a dictionary and have therefore mastered the english language
Come on now, please don't try and tell me that you've listened to anything that I've posted with an open mind, or that you've listened to it carefully.
95whitepep 04-07-2008, 03:59 PM after Nirvana showed up
before that, you had the real thing
For a second there I thought your were going to post Honeymoon Suite.
1revnrex 04-07-2008, 06:06 PM Tool rocks. So does A Perfect Circle.
jhammons01 04-07-2008, 08:55 PM Wow, this same pwnage works in two threads
Honeymoon Suite's The Big Prize sounds even better to my ears these days, perhaps because it wasn't overplayed
"Words in the Wind", "All Along You Knew"...just stellar tracks
Tool rocks. So does A Perfect Circle.
...and Puscifer?
1revnrex 04-07-2008, 09:08 PM ...and Puscifer?
Never listened to Puscifer, hes got a pretty cool website up for the band though.
cool_as_crap 04-07-2008, 09:55 PM That ones good too, I enjoy it.
wotnartd 04-07-2008, 10:00 PM Tool rocks. So does A Perfect Circle.
Indeed.
