The list was 100 i believe.... the top 5 were:
1: Led Zeppelin
2: Black Sabbath
3: Jimmi Hendrix
4: AC/DC
5: Metallica
I don't consider Led Zeppelin or Hendrix to be hard rock really.... AC/DC... better than metallica? I hope that was someone's sense of humor at work. Black Sabbath... they were pretty good.
ComradeGiant 02-13-2006, 07:11 PM I watched that show. I seem to recall they focused on how influential the artist was, rather than how good they were.
Zep and Hendrix definitely inspired the later groups.
meddle 02-13-2006, 07:19 PM Ohh fuck. I just realised we didn't get a hard rock track of the week form YZF this week!

Hard Rock + Christianity..... it just goes together....
:dunno:
DarkAngelKamui 02-13-2006, 07:29 PM Wait, VH1 is actually trying to cover hard rock?
I thought they only dealt with 80's hair bands and lame R&B these days....
My vote goes for Led first, then Jimmy.... Even though they really aren't "hard rock" in my book, either....
my top 5 is:
1. Van Halen
2. Rush
3. Whitesnake
4. Def Leppard
5. AC/DC
Zeppelin is more classic rock to me, and Metallica is more toward the metal side
Please show me your teased hair and spandex pics from the 80s...
wonner 02-13-2006, 07:41 PM my top 5 is:

You forgot Warrant and Winger.
wonner 02-13-2006, 07:43 PM and lars isn't?? LOL
You guys are wrong....both of them are whiny fags.

Compared to The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Rolling Stones, and other bands popular @ the same time, Zeppelin was hard rock :) It's all relative.
none of those bands wore that stuff, except perhaps def leppard..
actually, they just wore blue jeans with lots of holes in them
try again....I don't like Poison and those bands
We've been through this...

Mark probably liked Judas Priest, too, until he realised there was homosexuality involved...
thought I would share some of my views on the best of hard rock and metal here, from my impeccable CD collection, especially for the younger kids who think rap, hip-hop, an punk-thrash is worth a plugged nickel
I start off with one of the kings of the genre, Judas Priest....Halford's ear piercing vocals are unforgettable, and coming off the success of "Screaming for Vengeance" and "Defenders of the Faith", they released a flamboyant, borderline cheesy album called "Turbo"....I hated it at first, but grew to enjoy some of the licks on songs like "Locked In" and "Private Property"
so off that CD is "Turbo Lover", a song that demands TOP volume, wonderful chops in this song
"we hold eachother closer, as we shift to overdrive, and everything goes RUSHING by, with every nerve alive..."
even my g/f likes it, ha.....CRANK IT UP.....rap punks be gone!
They were his 1st weeks choice...

I freal lol'd when i saw wonner say "bitchin pants"...
bahahahaha
Supper 02-13-2006, 07:53 PM Metallica fucking sucks.
sure, they were bad ass back in the day, but the minute that Lars started bitching and moaning about piracy was the day I lost any respect for them I ever had.
Manntis 02-13-2006, 07:56 PM so hating gays, and buying albums featuring gay singers, aren't incompatable in your brand of Christianity
Manntis 02-13-2006, 08:16 PM Metallica fucking sucks.

The ironic thing is back in the day, Metallica encouraged people to tape their music and bootleg it, to reach a wider audience and increase their concert attendance

~1994 - 2002...... they all lost their fucking minds.... They're halfway alright now.

Right. Master of Puppets kicked ass.
Ride The Lightning
Master of Puppets
And Justice For All
All 3 were killer.... Kill 'em All was alright.... just lacked quality and experience. The black album was different, but okay.
Load and Re-load... worst albums ever made by any metal band... during the time they lost touch with reality
Supper 02-13-2006, 08:51 PM The ironic thing is back in the day, Metallica encouraged people to tape their music and bootleg it, to reach a wider audience and increase their concert attendance
exactly.
vrooom305 02-13-2006, 10:51 PM what??? no Iron Maiden???
jimlab 02-14-2006, 12:15 AM Load and Re-load... worst albums ever made by any metal band...Have you listened to St. Anger?
during the time they lost touch with realityHappened long before that...
After the video for "One" won a Grammy, they became the biggest video posers of the metal genre.
jimlab 02-14-2006, 12:19 AM UP THE IRONS!Says the second biggest poser of the metal genre...
ComradeGiant 02-14-2006, 12:28 AM You're both posers for debating who is more metal.
ComradeGiant 02-14-2006, 12:33 AM Ah, but isn't that the point?
The Forumlounge: Home of Rampant Assholery
Or something like that, IIRC.
Manntis 02-14-2006, 01:14 AM I'm quite sure I've been listening to metal music longer than you
what is the first metal CD you ever purchased? and when?
Here we go again - you're certain your accomplishment is 'greater' than someone else's, then you ask what they have attained... Reminds me of your "I bench more than you! How much do you bench?" crap.
2ndGen.Rocket 02-14-2006, 07:27 AM Whoa whoah whoah now, Zeppelin not hard rock? Fuck, Zeppelin DEFINED the genre. As Manntis said, it's all relative to time period. Zeppelin was loud, fast, and in your face. Their first album absolutely blew people's minds. The first track is a semi hard, radio friendly rock tune. The second song, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is unlike ANYTHING that had preceded it. The drum track in that song is insane, bonzo just absolutely fucking wailing on his skins with Page wailing equally hard on heavily distorted power chords, syncopated to create one solid wall of sound. Plant belting out vocals at the top of his lungs, how can anyone NOT think that is hard rock?
Zeppelin, by leaps and bounds, was more hard rock than anyone else listed. Sure they were heavily influenced by blues, world music, and whatever else, but they used to that to create an entirely new sound. Hendrix was getting there, but didn't have the band to back him up. Sabbath was in the same boat. Iommi could have done more, but he didn't have the crew to push him along.
And Metallica? Pleeease. Jimmy Page would have made everyone in Metallica shit themselves. Zeppelin was already the definition of hard rock before Metallica was even conceived.

Rush is progressive rock.
But you surprised me over all with that list. Not in a good way though.
DarkAngelKamui 02-14-2006, 07:49 AM Whoa whoah whoah now, Zeppelin not hard rock? Fuck, Zeppelin DEFINED the genre. As Manntis said, it's all relative to time period. That IS why my vote went to them first, after all... :D
I used to have to the zeppelin discography... it isn't hard rock. It's alright for what it is...
meddle 02-14-2006, 11:59 AM I only really like zeps first three albums. And the BBC session albums. I don't like the harder shit form their later days.
meddle 02-14-2006, 12:02 PM The who is ok. Tommy is one of those albums thats great to throw in and have in the background.
BATMAN 02-14-2006, 12:25 PM Looks like jimlab, jimlab and YZF have the same taste in band.......
Personally I prefer the band from Manfagcisco Gay Area called Metallica..... :)
jimlab 02-14-2006, 08:56 PM I'm quite sure I've been listening to metal music longer than youIs this another of your $1,000 bets, Mark? You'd lose. Again.
what is the first metal CD you ever purchased? and when?First metal CD? What about tapes and vinyl?
We were already playing Priest, Dio, and Metallica covers in '84, and I'd been listening to Priest, Accept, Metallica, and others since '82. If you count Ozzy as metal, then make that '81.
You're the late-comer who thinks that Van Hagar is real music and jumped on the Metallica band wagon in the late 80s, I'll bet. You're about as much of a legitimate headbanger as Vanilla Ice, you wannabe poser. :bigthumb:
lmao@the 2 oldest mother fuckers on here arguing over who did something first
does it fuckin matter?
So... who has the biggest bank account?
breckboarder55 02-14-2006, 10:05 PM the who is awesome, first album i ever bought!
jimlab 02-14-2006, 10:13 PM So... who has the biggest bank account? That'd be me. :)
jimlab 02-14-2006, 10:28 PM Prove it.I thought I already had. Know anyone else with a $100,000+ RX-7 sitting in their garage that they haven't driven for 7 years and don't care if they do again?
$100,000? I'm calling bs.... There isn't one on earth with that much money in it. Could you even spend that much on one?
Queen 02-14-2006, 10:39 PM Pffft I'm richer than all you suckas
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b261/QueenOTW/daffyduck2.jpg
jimlab 02-14-2006, 10:44 PM $100,000? I'm calling bs....I have well over $120k in receipts, and that doesn't include the $44k purchase price.
I started adding it up one day and stopped at $116k and still hadn't even gotten to the paint, stereo, and other odds and ends. That doesn't include the money spent on the LSx engine cradle development over the last few months, as well as a few receipts I couldn't find, like the $850 for Mostly Mazda reprogramming my original ECU.
I'll be more than happy to send you the Excel spreadsheet with vendors, part numbers, invoice or check numbers, and totals.
lmaooooo I'll take your word for it.... That's insane though
Why so much in a motor? N/A or forced induction?
jimlab 02-14-2006, 10:49 PM Why so much in a motor?Almost everything was custom made. Crank, rods, pistons, heads, intake...
N/A or forced induction?~650 horsepower NA, untuned.
http://home.gci.net/~jimlab/images/Engine/Delivered/Dyno.jpg
you say 650.. but it isn't running.... thats 650 at the crank i assume? why so little? I've seen several fbody LS1/6's putting down 400rwhp+ n/a...
The ls7 is like 500 at the crank too right?
You spent a lot of money for custom everything just to get 100 or so horses or what?
I'm not following you here.... maybe i'd just value 100k more than you do :)
jimlab 02-14-2006, 11:21 PM you say 650.No, I showed 650. Did you look at the dyno sheet?
Look at the A/F ratios. Completely untuned and with ignition breakup through the peak power range of 6,900-7,300 rpm. There was easily 680 horsepower in that engine when final tuned, and that's on 93 octane pump gas, naturally aspirated.
but it isn't running.Nope, I changed my mind on what I wanted again, as I have several times in the past.
thats 650 at the crank i assume? You would be correct.
http://home.gci.net/~jimlab/images/Dyno/P4260021.jpg
why so little? You should be asking "why so much?"
I've seen several fbody LS1/6's putting down 400rwhp+ n/a...So have I. With 13% drivetrain losses (typical for a T56 6-speed car), that's only 460+ at the flywheel. At that point, most of them opt for nitrous to make up the difference.
The ls7 is like 500 at the crank too right?Yes, from a 427 CID engine with 12-degree cylinder heads. My "LT1" was a 396 CID with 23-degree SBC cylinder heads. I don't expect you to understand the difference there, but be assured that there is one besides the obvious 30+ cubic inch advantage.
You spent a lot of money for custom everything just to get 100 or so horses or what? There's a lot more to an engine than just the peak horsepower number. How about 400+ lb-ft. of torque from 2,000 rpm to 8,000 rpm? How about a 396 that revs like a 4-cylinder because of all the ultralight components inside? 37 lb. billet crankshaft. 505 gram billet rods. 400 gram forged pistons. Titanium valves.
I'm not following you here.Apparently not.
maybe i'd just value 100k more than you do :)Probably. Now consider that I spent ~$30k on mods for my Supra during that time, and then bought a new Z06 Corvette when I got bored with that.
I have youth and you two don't.
jimlab 02-14-2006, 11:54 PM is I purchased "Ride the Lightning" immediately when it came out:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:
1984. We were doing covers from Kill 'Em All by that time.
and I had been listening to early Priest and Maiden for years before thatNot for too many years. Killers was released in '81 and Number of the Beast in '82, which I got when it came out. Point of Entry was also released in '81, which was my first Priest casette, now that I think about it.
I might add I also picked up "Back in Black" about a month after it came out, which was '81, I believeAC/DC isn't metal, but whatever. Back in Black was released in 1980, and I still have the original vinyl album. By 1981, Dirty Deeds and For Those About To Rock were out. For Those was my first AC/DC cassette, and I had Dirty Deeds on vinyl.
jimlab 02-14-2006, 11:56 PM wow, did you ever get rapedNo, "raped" would be if I had to live within your budget. I didn't even feel it.
I had ride the lightning when I was 8... I win.
I still have the cassette tape. My cousin gave it to me because he thought Kriss Kross was cool (the stupid ******s that wore their clothes backwards)... i wore it out.
jimlab 02-15-2006, 12:06 AM you'e gonna get cancer and die young, you KNOW that, right?Oh, God no!!!
who will get your money then?My wife? Ask me another trick question.
Where's the cancer thing root from? That was pretty random.
jimlab 02-15-2006, 12:09 AM when did you buy Back in Black? When it was released in 1980, not 1981. I had Highway To Hell on vinyl also. Still do, somewhere.
jimlab 02-15-2006, 12:10 AM Where's the cancer thing root from? That was pretty random. No, he's been wishing cancer and death on me for several weeks now. It's getting pretty boring.
jimlab 02-15-2006, 12:46 AM no, I don't wish death on anyoneCould have fooled me.
but it would be nice to see you severely humbledAnd it would require cancer to do that? Um, OK...
