Hsnite 11-26-2002, 11:19 PM Ok, this is going to be LOOONG so I don't blame anyone for not reading it unless they're really bored. Anyway, I bought a VW Cabrio Convertible from Vic Bailey Used Cars like 2 weeks ago...at that time, the dealer told me that the car was in perfect condition. So, I had Chris and Luis look at it, and they said that mechanically, everything was okay. (And they were right, thanks again!) So...I bought it. The only visible problem at the time was that the airbag light was on. So, the dealership agreed to fix it the next day. After only having it for maybe 20 hours or so, the check engine light came on. So, Chris and I went to the dealership and the said that they would fix the problems. (Oh yeah, and the cruise control didn't work and two lights were burned out--which they also said that they would take car of). So, Chris and I drove around in a pimpin' Lumina rental car for a few days until we got the VW back. When they were finally done with it, we went to pick it up and everything seemed to be fixed. On the way to...somewhere, I don't remember, Chris found out that the cruise control wasn't fixed and they broke the steering column in the process of fixing one of the lights. So we agreed to take it back again. Before we had time to go to the dealership, the check engine light came back on, plus the lock system was and still is messed up. Anyway, so in the meantime, Chris and I went to the post office, sent a certified letter telling Vic Bailey that they failed to fix a few problems plus caused a few more. We also took a letter straight to the manager and he said that he would take care of everything on Monday (11-25). Anyway, we didn't make it over there yesterday, so we took it today. When we got there, the manager was rather rude to Chris and insisted that he gave us the money back if he couldn't make his customer happy, but to try to take it to his woman in charge of mechanical crap in the other building first. So, we waitied for about 45 min. while they did some stuff...and then they took us back into their office. They being the manager; Gene, the dealer; Roosevelt, and the fat woman; Debby. So, Gene was rather rude saying that he would only fix safety issues and that they only said that the car was in perfect MECHANICAL condition...which is true, except they forgot to say mechanical. So, Chris politely explained that he was just doing what his lawyer told him was best. As soon as Chris said the word "lawyer," Gene got all hostile and attempted to storm out of the office. Chris got him to calm down and sit down again instead of act like an idiot, and he said that he wouldn't help us or give us money back because we mentioned a lawyer. So, Chris, remaining calm, explained that we just wanted things fixed and Gene said that he wouldn't deal with Chris because it wasn't his car. Then Chris explained that he is my financial advisor (which is true--I don't know what I'd do without him!) and the guy said he didn't care and didn't want to hear any more from Chris. So he (Gene) told me that he would gladly talk to me and my mother about it, and Chris and I left. My mother is lazy and stupid and said it would be embarassing to go up there and complain about the car, so I'm not really sure what to do at this point. If any of you actually took the time to read this, then I'd be more than happy for suggestions! (And I also thank you for reading this--I'm a horrible story-teller!) Anyway, I'd really appreciate it! And for those of you that just scrolled down to the bottom to see if I actually had anything interesting to say, just don't buy a car from Vic Bailey because they suck! :-) rxtasy 11-26-2002, 11:59 PM Do they have something like a "30 day love it or leave it" policy? Makes u wonder why Gene only wants to deal with women. I'd talk to ur lawer again and let him know what was said and see what his next move is, hell, take him with u next time. I think this is one of those times that warrents the saying, "get everything in writting". I've worked as a mechanic at several places and if,like in ur case where the dealership isn't making money on the repairs, they will do a halfass job just to get by. Like the check engine light. They prob just cleared codes in it and let it go. I know how to bring up codes in GM and Dodge. I'm sure Chris could call AutoZone or someplaec like that and they may know how on VW's, they're how I found out how to do it on Dodges. They said it was in perfect mechanical condition, that means everything mechanical works, but I guess that doesn't include electrical stuff. I'd continue to make them fix it or they can keep it, if they put a warrenty on the car, then they should honor it. Hsnite 11-27-2002, 12:24 AM Thanks for taking the time to read my long story! And yeah, I'm sure he wanted to talk to my mother because he can take advantage of women...hmph. 91lx 11-27-2002, 12:58 AM I worked at a dealership in the shop and I agree Vic Bailey sucks. They cant even sell SVTs theres a reason for that... Dick Brooks Mitsubishi where I worked was a little bit better and our sales people were pretty decent but there was always some degree of bull-sh.. going on. I didnt really like out service manager he didnt know anything about cars and that isn't a good thing. I bought my car from Dave Edwards Toyota after I worked there for a couple weeks training for a national automotive competetion. Their shop is spotless. Most all the mechanics are friendly and know their stuff. The sales people are pretty good too. Their prices on some cars are high, but they have some good specials. They actually do a thorough used car inspection . HighTachPrez 11-27-2002, 01:19 AM Your main argument is that they said the car was in perfect condition. Obviously it isn't.... Who has the title to the car? Whoever it is bring em in and let them do the bitchin. Looks like u have every right to. Another semi-long story: Back in the RX-7 days, i purchased a 3 year/36,000mile extended warranty from Spartanburg Mazda. When i was approved of the extended warranty, i currently had an intake and exhaust on the 7. In the near future the stock turbos were turning to crap...So of course i take it by VIC BAILEY Mazda for them to look at it. Later that day they brought me to the back and said my "boosters were bad". "Alright" i said so i told him to show me the evidence. We go to look under the car, and sure enough he showed me the turbos. He points at the turbo (secondary i might add) and there is fresh oil on the turbo. Obviously the oil was put on by his finger, because it was completely fresh and looked like it was smugged on there. Redneck mechanic "Welp, looks like u need to git new boosters"... "Yea" i said "......good thing they're under warranty" "WHAT!", he said lolol "how do you have warranty on this?!?".. well you can guess all the trouble i went through, but all in all refurbished turbos were installed (with only a "few" vacuum lines not connected correctly). During that period the Service Manager had quit, and hired a new one 2nd trip (i'll keep it short) Blown engine (Same mods on car), they wouldn't replace the engine because of "aftermarket parts" (which by the way were on the car when the warranty was obtained), bickering went back and forth. I have a bad memory and can't remember why but the engine was never replaced, so we took it up to Rotorsports to be rebuilt.... During that period the recently hired Service Manager had quit, and hired a new one lolol. Good luck BlueCalx 12-18-2002, 08:12 PM Heather... I would do like Michael said and see about getting the codes scanned at Auto Zone. *Then Chris or whoever can know what is up w/ the car. *It sounds like Vic Bailey is a sh*tpile of a dealer. *I'd either get Chris to check on it himself, or get a lawyer involved.. really. *Get a letter from a lawyer sent to the dealer explaining all of this in detail.... Of course this was a month ago and you probably have it all sorted out now anyway. * Also, btw, I worked on the roof of Dave Edwards 'yota a year ago or so for a period of a few days or a week. *Those guys were so nice... even though I was just more or less passing through their work area. *The shop was spotless and every day they mopped the f'in shop floor! *mopped it I say!! *I couldn't believe it... *The place was clean as h3ll.. and I imagine the mechanics sucked FAR less than they do at the local sh*t - I mean Ford - dealership. * Vic Bailey Ford is sh*t. * *dumbass service dept..... Cosby 12-18-2002, 09:59 PM vic bailey is SHIT complete shit...Ive pretty much decided they can go to #### b/c they wont fix her car right even if we beat them so I'll just do it myself. Already time for an oil change and such...thats crappy gsxman 01-07-2003, 05:32 AM I do agree that Vic Bailey is an asswipe, so I will gladly blow the dealership up for you. Simply procure all off the neccesary explosives and I will handle the rest Hsnite 01-07-2003, 02:47 PM Hmm...sounds like a plan |
