rtryb2200 02-06-2007, 10:06 AM So the motor puked on my washer yesterday. Did some research and looked around last night. Just thought I would ask here about what everyone has and if anyone has any problems with a certain brand.
I would like to stay under 700 bucks, would prefer dials since electronics are expensive to replace.
I told the wife my folks have an old washboard and she could go to the river and do the laudry but she hit me. So I am guessing that wouldn't work.
Let me know what you guys have or have had experience with.
Cosby 02-06-2007, 10:08 AM just wear your clothes in the shower pussy
rtryb2200 02-06-2007, 10:11 AM yeah but then I would have to move the dryer upstairs so I didn't get water all over the place when I got out of the shower

I suppose your idea of loading the dishwasher is getting the wife drunk.
rtryb2200 02-06-2007, 11:26 AM no but I'll have to remember that one...
She gives me shit right back all the time, so something like that is to be expected
SpartanTS 02-06-2007, 11:32 AM You should be able to find a machine with dials for less than $700 fairly easily. My parents stuck with Fridgidare over the years and I recently got a pair of front loaders myself.
I didn't realize how great of an investment a washing machine/dryer would be. I hated going out to do my laundry.
wotnartd 02-06-2007, 11:51 AM Our wash machine is Maytag and has been nothing but a huge lemon.
Whirlpool FTW.
jhammons01 02-06-2007, 12:08 PM ^^The front load Maytags are really bad. My Brothers Maytag Dryer quits all the time.
go to Sears Warehouse and buy a dented or scratched one for 50% off retail. The Kenmore Front loader we have runs two to three times per day every day and has not caused us any trouble.
wotnartd 02-06-2007, 12:18 PM I'm not a big front load fan, convince me.
My family is in the market as well. Our three year old Maytag has been replaced, top to bottom, and still sucks.
rtryb2200 02-06-2007, 02:03 PM Well I tore the thing apart and fixed it myself...I got to thinking that it was pumping water out so the motor was fine...thought it might be the transmission.
turns out it was this piece of shit plastic piece between the motor and transmission. 20 bucks and it was fixed. I feel like a dumbass now
Thanks for the help though!!
Oh and front loaders are around 35-50 percent more effcient then top loaders. They use less water and the newest ones on the market have an agitator plate instead of the normal agitator. The new HE are extremely effcient but you need to buy specific soap.
One front loader I was looking at was a whirlpool dual sport it has an energy star rating it is not an HE but was one of the most effcient price was right around 700
The one thing that pissed me off the most was the more effcient ones also had more features, like 18 different wash cycles, then I would ever use.
rtryb2200 02-06-2007, 02:04 PM Oh yeah and Whirlpool makes...Kenmore, Roper, and also use the same motors as most GEs
Cosby 02-06-2007, 04:50 PM Are you like a washing machine pro?
rtryb2200 02-06-2007, 06:59 PM After all teh research the last two days I think I might try and be the next maytag repairman!!

shwambo 02-08-2007, 02:49 PM Stick with the Whirlpools, the duet sport is good, the duet is better. Stay the fuck away from Frigidaire and Maytag front loaders, they are pieces of shit. GE, Samsung, and Bosch fall in between (all of this based on how many come back/call in for repairs at Lowes where I work)
ComradeGiant 02-08-2007, 03:02 PM Maytag Neptunes eat a dick really quickly for how much they cost.
I like my Kenmore.
shwambo 02-08-2007, 03:06 PM Kenmore=Whirlpool
Whirlpool also just bought Maytag, so the neptunes are out of production and should be replaced with a duet clone before long
ComradeGiant 02-08-2007, 03:47 PM Damn, now the Maytag repair man really will be out of a job.

Neptune was the name I was looking for. that is the really bad one.
The Front loaders are much more efficient and larger. They are supposed to use the HE soap but we just put the cheap stuff in there. The HE is supposed to be low foam, we just use less cheap stuff and it has worked fine for over a year now.
You all need to check with your Water Company for rebates. We bought a $900 dented Kenmore for $500 because it was dented and then got a $300 rebate from the water company for buying a water saving unit. $200 bux??? Yea, I'm all over that.
BATMAN 02-08-2007, 08:53 PM I have a front load GE.
Front load > top load.
Why?
saves water
use less detergent to get the job done
easier on clothes (no center agitator)
usually more reliable
spin cycle is faster to wring out the water = less dryer time = less $$$ on energy bill
and on and on.......

The most important one is that it doesn't walk away from the wall, unplug the drain hose, and flood your garage when your idiot friend puts a sleeping bag on one side and three pairs of socks on the other.
Supper 02-09-2007, 11:33 AM front loaders = :bigthumb:

who keeps their washing machine in the garage?
Manntis 02-09-2007, 06:53 PM who keeps their washing machine in the garage?
It's fairly common in the 'burbs
rtryb2200 02-09-2007, 07:07 PM I suppose, especially if you do not have a basement. Around here 99% of homes are built with basements. Unless you live in the trailer park

Earthquake country, we don't believe in basements here.
