2ndGen.Rocket 07-05-2008, 10:26 AM Despite the fact that they handle like shit, have shitty interiors, and are cheaply made, the thing was fast as fuck. He started from a dead stop in 4th gear at one point, and the thing pulled like crazy all the way up to about 130. Honestly it was the only ride I've ever been on that legitimately scared me a little bit. The rear end was all over the damn place, and the thing just had an insane amount of power. I've ridden in Nextel Cup cars around Charlotte Motor Speedway at about 170mph and that didn't throw my stomach into my throat like this car did. Zero 07-05-2008, 10:32 AM The feeling of torque is addicting, I used to hate mustangs too :)... 03/04? 2ndGen.Rocket 07-05-2008, 10:46 PM Yeah I don't know which of the two, but it was an 03/04 model. Black with black and red leather seats. The whine of that supercharger is just incredible, unbelievable how hard this damn thing pulls. A friend of mine just bought it last week from someone in Michigan who just got called off to Iraq. I've been in some pretty serious muscle cars before, the guy I know who has that new M3 has a pretty badass 72' Nova as well that is fast as all hell, but nothing like this Cobra. Alex-7 07-06-2008, 04:40 AM whats needed to sqeeze 600 out of one of those things? I know 400 is just a pulley and exhaust away for a stock one. I'd imagine 600 would require different heads, supercharger and quite a bit of other shit. I bet it was a blast. Fendamonky 07-06-2008, 04:58 AM I *think* those came with the 5.4... if so I'd say that 600whp is damn easy to get. I've a buddy in Iraq right now with a '99 GT. His timing chain in the 4.6 slipped and completely destroyed the engine. We will be putting a 5.4 (overbored .20, to be 5.5) with twin chargers and forged everything in it once he gets back in January. I *really* hope we can finish it before I leave in Feb.. That bitch is gunna be FAST! and I wanna give her a run when it's done. skydivr7673 07-06-2008, 09:28 AM they come with a 4.6L 4-valve engine thats supercharged--390 hp and 390 tq out of the box. If I remember right, once you get past the usual bolt-ons, youre talking about a new cam, ported heads, and the upgraded supercharger to put down more than 600. the 5.4 supercharged engine comes in the harley davidson edition F150 I agree with the shitty handling and the bad interior--my 03 GT has much better handling because of the aftermarket parts on it, but it still isnt ideal--but for the price you get a decent performer, and more power isnt hard to come by with all the add-ons out there. Plus, my girls can sit in the back seat...and for some odd reason I average 26 mpg or so each tank of gas. I dont know anyone who gets their foot in it like I do that gets mileage like that out of a V8. At this point the biggest thing I need to change is the seat, it isnt nearly as comfortable as I want. But all in all it was worth the $$$ I paid for it. Zero 07-06-2008, 04:05 PM they come with a 4.6L 4-valve engine thats supercharged--390 hp and 390 tq out of the box. If I remember right, once you get past the usual bolt-ons, youre talking about a new cam, ported heads, and the upgraded supercharger to put down more than 600. Many dyno sheets of stock 03/04 cobras show they're all making a bit more. basic bolt ons, esp pulleys & tunes are getting good numbers... The "terminator" thing is pretty funny too. skydivr7673 07-06-2008, 09:37 PM yeah it is funny--theres a guy around here thats got a red one...he's got "terminator" graphics on the back of it and things on it like "viper killer" written on the doors....the car sounds like he's got some work into it but still, that makes it just plain ghey all day long. cool_as_crap 07-06-2008, 09:53 PM I've been in one of those, 650 to the wheels and convertible. Holy crap it was nuts, and did surprisingly well as far as handling goes, it had a lot of weight reduction and a full suspension build up. All around well built car. skydivr7673 07-07-2008, 12:41 AM yeah, well it would have to be SC because a stock 04 Cobra hands a stock 04 vette its ass. Who wouldnt take a modded vette over a stock mustang? kinda funny how you talk about a mustang being "bloated"...the 04 GT curb weight comes in at about 30 pounds more than a C5 vette does. WOW, what massive extra weight that is. so....even being heavier than the vette, stock for stock the cobra beats the vette in the quarter, has a back seat, more storage room, and costs $15K less. youre right--what a horrible deal that is. Do you have any idea what you could do to that mustang's suspension with half that $15K you saved back then? BATMAN 07-07-2008, 02:37 PM My GTO will walk that Mustang. About the same power. I'm lighter and more aero. I scare all the passengers in the GTO. As a matter of fact I might coin it as a birth control since it may cause females to stop laying their ovums every few month or so. 2ndGen.Rocket 07-07-2008, 03:01 PM Yeah, the Stang has got you by about 300lbs Batty. 91lx 07-07-2008, 03:29 PM 03 Cobra is 360whp/3400lbs. Mine is 493whp/3250. The s/c only makes power 4k-6rpm. The turbo should make peak boost from 2k-6k. HP wont go up much if at all but it will be a lot more useable. BATMAN 07-07-2008, 03:35 PM ? GTO curb weight = 3725 what's your measured rwhp? not 3900lbs? 515rwhp at 95F 2ndGen.Rocket 07-07-2008, 05:09 PM Either way, they would be a fun little toy to pick up. I don't know if I could justify dropping $30k on one though, I'd rather keep saving for a Porsche. D-Rock 07-07-2008, 05:30 PM cobras with KB chargers are pretty sick... a blowzilla charger can put out some serious power... most of the KB chargers have more displacement than the average econobox engines wotnartd 07-07-2008, 05:44 PM Either way, they would be a fun little toy to pick up. I don't know if I could justify dropping $30k on one though, I'd rather keep saving for a Porsche. Why not supe up the good ol' FC? *runs and hides* Zero 07-07-2008, 08:39 PM Alright, racing isn't simple power to weight ratio. 1: Power isn't shit if you can't drop it to the ground. Whatever car has better suspension geared towards hooking versus handling will have a huge advantage. Of course, without the proper tire all is wasted. 2: Power band. Both of these cars will do very good on torque, and I'd imagine both would pull pretty high for v8's. 3: Gearing, I haven't seen either of you post anything about gearing. Although the philosophy when a blower is added to a v8 changes a little bit about, I think it's safe to say there's room for improvement of both over stock. Not sure if the cobra has an 8.8 or 9, but either way, both are rock solid and a common upgrade for f-bodies. Considering many mustang parts are interchangeable, even across different body styles, I'll put money on a solid-axle conversion versus IRS being much easier and cheaper on the cobra, making it all the more common--see traction above. 4: Your car isn't shit if you can't drive it. I've seen so many people that dumped tons of money into a motor get their ass busted because they can't drive. Again, a dyno-queen can make all the numbers it wants, but things are much different when it comes to racing. There's one way to tell which car can outrun the other-to fuckin' do it, and that doesn't involve a keyboard. You're across the country, and it's near impossible, but I'm sure you can find some modified 03/04 cobra's that'd love to play... and you're underestimating them batty. A stockish one with the right driver wouldn't be a slaughter for you. Supper 07-08-2008, 03:38 PM My truck will stomp that Cobra by this time next year. 2ndGen.Rocket 07-08-2008, 07:52 PM 3500 pound street cars are fairly worthless on the track Tell that to a new M3 or RS4. 91lx 07-08-2008, 07:56 PM Tell that to a new M3 or RS4. He listens to no people, only the bible. skydivr7673 07-09-2008, 07:29 PM drag racing is pretty mindless in my book...the 600+ hp drag queens, even 800+ rwhp Supras, will get beaten up pretty bad by a well sorted FD with about 380 hp on a roadcourse...that's the real world, that's real driving, I don't live by the Vin Diesel motto 3500 pound street cars are fairly worthless on the track funny seeing you type this, after all the time you spent hyping up what your Camry turns in the quarter...in fact, that was one of the reasons why you said you bought it! Not to mention the street racing....you cant think its that mindless when thats your normal practice Fatmike 07-09-2008, 07:39 PM hahahaha camry nathantheman 07-10-2008, 07:59 AM hey batman, why dont you put the gto powerplant into the nsx. then it will be birth control and sexy all in one. you can call it "alesse" nathantheman 07-10-2008, 08:02 AM oh and just so everyone knows my mr2 > 600 hp mustang / gto /porche / fc / veyron lol wotnartd 07-10-2008, 08:52 AM My truck will stomp that Cobra by this time next year. Money talks, bullshit walks. BATMAN 07-10-2008, 10:24 AM hey batman, why dont you put the gto powerplant into the nsx. then it will be birth control and sexy all in one. you can call it "alesse" Trust me, there has been talks about that on the NSXprime.com Everyone knows that the NSX lacks balls by today's standards. nathantheman 07-10-2008, 06:44 PM Trust me, there has been talks about that on the NSXprime.com Everyone knows that the NSX lacks balls by today's standards. they can be turboed or blown though, right? or is it not worth it? 91lx 07-11-2008, 05:46 AM http://turbochargedpower.com/91-04%20Acura%20NSX.htm Lot of cash for just a turbo kit. My complete T-76 kit is only going to run $3300 but I already have my fuel system installed. And its a totally different car. |
