Installed windows xp pro a month ago on my new computer, but didn't activate it. A couple of days ago, I had 1 day left to activate. So I downloaded a crack to load in safe mode to activate it. It said it was active, the the little key icon wanting you to activate in the system tray disappeared, and I was able to download the most current version of windows media player, which I couldn't do before it was activated.
When I tried to log in after the activation period, however, I got a message that I need to activate before I can log in. When I click 'activate now', I get an error message that I have already activated Windows, then I'm logged back out.

Anyone have any suggestions how to fix this? If I have to I will reinstall windows, but If there is anything I can do in safe mode or DOS to fix it, that'd be great :bigthumb:

Try a different serial. You can find bogus ones on P2P progs, and websites if you look hard enough.

When I worked at Office Depot, I'd just use the serials off of those computers.

Too bad there aren't any XP computers on the shelf now. That would have been your ticket to a legal key.

Haha, that'd be nice.
I know I could find a cracked key somewhere, I just hoped someone here would have one.

Is anything compatible with that? I've never even heard of that OS.

what do you want to use with it?

I put it on my dad's laptop, picked up his wireless card and got right on the network. Comes with OpenOffice, Firefox, loads of software... out-of-the-box install has more apps than you'll ever need

Animal, my machine came with Vista. Is it possible to have both? If so, how do you boot one and not the other?

Dual boot has been around for a LONG time you noob. Another good place to pick up serials is the public library :)

You need to set up partitions for your hard drive.
