I probably couldn't recite many facts about WWI off the top of my head either. It's something that I learned and took a quiz on when I was in 8th grade and then never really had to speak or think about again. This girl was obviously dumb, but I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot of people who are educated that couldn't rattle off facts about it either.

In 1914, Archduke Ferdinan (sp) (an austro-hungarian) was shot by what they believed to be a serbian radical. Austro-Hungarian Empire declared war and Germany under the Kaiser came to their aid. As did the Ottoman Empire. France and England tried to help out Serbia. Germany told Mexico to invade America via the Zimmerman Telegram. America intercepted this and declared war in 1917. WWI was fought primarily in trenches. WWI bankrupted Germany due to reparations and this is why Germany got pissed and Hitler was eventually elected.

and she confused world war i and the american civil war into one huge mess where england fought germany for freedom and democracy... and to free black slaves? Furthermore, anyone at age 17 should know more about history than most people in the 20+ range because she has recently attended classes on the shit. Nearly all h.s. cirriculums include world history (9th), american history (10th), and an entire class on the american government(12th) and how it was influenced to be what it's developed to be.

This is the very reason my patience is tested when dealing with anything retail or restaurant related. BTW... mr. smartass can't spell "independence"... which a task most 8 year olds won't struggle with.
