$100T2 03-28-2008, 01:07 PM I'm considering getting a PS3, primarily because GTA4 is coming out. I'm assuming you can still play your PS2 games on it, just like you can play PS1 games on a PS2... Other than GTA, I love the Castlevania games (fuck off, I grew up with that on my Nintendo!), Gran Turismo is ok/so-so, and I play mostly Madden and NBA Live. How are those types of games for the PS3? wonner 03-28-2008, 01:17 PM I just got a PS3 and I love it so far. Yes, you can play PS2 games and the ability to play Blu-Ray movies was a major influence in my decision. Also, it connects wirelessly to your router, so you can play movies/vids/pics from your computer on TV fairly easily. EDIT: The only PS3 game I bought was Tekken 5 and it kicks ass. I haven't gotten a chance to rent any others yet. I'm a Tony Hawk fan, but I played Skate in a local GameStop and it was fucking awesome...if you're into that kinda shit. Herschel 03-28-2008, 02:02 PM I have one and have several games for it. Right now I am having a problem because I primarily game online and the PSN sucks giant goat balls as of right now. If you mostly play offline games then this won't be a problem for you. I could care less about offline games at this point so I'm a little frustrated with it. COD 4 and RB6V2 are prime examples of this. Offline, the games are good....graphics and game play are great, but the online modes (which is the whole reason I buy these types of games) is absolutely horrendous. I mostly like racing games or war type games, but I do also like the skateboard games as well. Skate was pretty good (offline) as was Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. I have F1 Championship Edition and although I like the game play this game tends to drag out to long for me. However, if you like the whole tuning and race strategy thing then this game has PLENTY of that. Assassins Creed is another good game if you like running around completing objectives and messing with the environment, but my video game ADD kicks in real bad with this game because it's a little slow paced for me. Need For Speed: Pro Street is probably my favorite game right now, but I think that is due to the fact that it's one of the only games out right now that doesn't suck online. That and I have several friends that play this online which makes it real fun for me. Edit: I'm not really into sports games, but some of my teammates are and they have several recommendation's for what games are good and what aren't... Another thing to think about, knowing that you have kids, is that there are a lot of games that they could also enjoy on this console. Not nearly as many as the Wii has, but there are quite a few. As Wonner mentioned there is Blue Ray. They just did an update that further expands the PS3's Blue Ray capability. It looks as though they are truly trying to make the PS3 an entertainment hub because you can connect it to your home stereo and also to portable media devices (PSP, etc.). You can also use it as a PC, but you're really better off just using your home computer for surfing and such. Folding @ home is another thing that I personally think is pretty cool about the PS3. Whenever you aren't using it you can set it to fold and do a small part to help better the world. If you really want the low down on it then PM me and I will give you the address to my teams forum and you can see first hand what a good cross section of people think about it.... $100T2 03-28-2008, 02:18 PM Another thing to think about, knowing that you have kids, is that there are a lot of games that they could also enjoy on this console. Yea, they have some games that are geared toward young children. Stuff like that, but for the PS3. The Eye Toy has some games for it that I think would be neat for kids. You actually have to move around and stuff so they aren't just staring blankly at the TV. Alex-7 03-30-2008, 03:29 PM You can only play ps2 games on the 80gig one, right? A frind of mine has the 40 and it's pretty cool. I'm not much of a gamer but everything I've seen on there looks amazing. The demo I played for the new G.T. just seemed like they made everything look better but harder to drive. The dynamics of the cars in that game don't seem realistic to me at all. You can have 500+ hp and you still just understeer and scrub speed off through corner at WOT. KoukiFC3S 04-07-2008, 12:33 AM I don't play mine much but it's pretty cool. I just got Rainbow Six Vegas 2. It's sick. Yea the 80GB supports PS2 but not all games work. Eatmyclutch 04-07-2008, 09:43 PM I Folding @ home is another thing that I personally think is pretty cool about the PS3. What is folding? barneymcveigh 04-09-2008, 06:00 AM I own a ps3 and I love it my only complaint is that the online gaming is horrible( but when comparing it with xbox live it really is night and day). I own a wii a 360 and a ps3 and the only system that gives me problems is the xbox. I mainly bought the ps3 cuz its still the cheapest blu ray player on the market (at least I think it still is). I own nba 2k8 and I'm wishing I would have got nba 08. The 989 sports games are excellent on the ps3 (mlb the show, nba 08) they run at full 1080p and look amazing. I'm not a fan of ea sports games so I have no clue how nba live plays (and I absolutely hate madden) the web browser on the system isn't that great but it is nice that it has built in wireless as someone said before. I like the fact that I can access everything from my computer to my nice tv and surround sound in the living room. Hope this helped ya brickerenator@gmail. 04-09-2008, 02:14 PM What are the graphics actually like for the ps3? I've only ever seen them in walmart Eatmyclutch 04-09-2008, 10:52 PM I hear CoD:4 will give you a good run. Barney: what exactly is wrong with your 360? P.S. Madden > NBA 2K > NBA Live barneymcveigh 04-10-2008, 02:25 AM I bought the arcade version without a hard drive and the memory card some how erased itself and the 360 wouldn't even recognize any memory card. I bought a hard drive and that solved that problem. The only other problem it ever gives me is that it freezes at the most random inane times. I play all 3 systems about an equal amount of time and the ps3 and the wii have NEVER frozen. When it comes to graphics between the ps3 and the 360 I honestly can't compare the two cuz I have the ps3 connected to a hd lcd tv with a hdmi cable, and the 360 is connected to a regular ol' tv with just rca cables. Herschel 04-10-2008, 01:45 PM What is folding? Folding @ Home.... http://folding.stanford.edu/ I think it's kinda cool..... twilight 04-13-2008, 10:29 PM the way i look at it, the ps3 is worth for the blu ray alone. it costs the same as stand alone players, so its like your getting a gaming system for free. as for graphics, i bought an hdmi cable and it makes a world a difference, i couldnt believe how much better it looked . i cant say much for the online since i havent tried it yet, but all in all, i am definitely happy with my purchase. Eatmyclutch 04-13-2008, 10:47 PM How does the PS3 and 360 compare in load times? twilight 04-14-2008, 11:26 AM the ps3 does take a little longer to load (i heard it was because of the blu ray discs having so much more information on it) but its not that bad. i dont really notice it. Bruce9898 04-30-2008, 10:43 AM yah I'm torn on this topic. I wanna get either 360 or PS3 for rockband (lol I know, I know), but can't come to the decision yet. Is blue ray worth it? 360 is better overall as a serious gaming system no? Plus I can't stand the ps3 controller. Rotofire 04-30-2008, 11:09 AM Alright, I'm a big fan of the xbox 360 platform. IMO game selection, play, controllers, and the online network setup are all better than what I've seen on the PS3. I'm not saying a PS3 is bad, by no means. I'm actually going to pick one up for one reason and one reason only ... Metal Gear Solid. It's going to be sick. But other than that, the 360 has all the games I like. So when it comes down to it, I'll have both systems. If there's a game released on both systems I'll proably end up buying it for the 360 and hang onto the PS3 for a MGS/blue ray player. This is were I stand on the subject until game designers/programmers can fully utilize the potential of the PS3. Bruce9898 04-30-2008, 10:28 PM Thats a good point rotofire. I do like MGS. But dropping cash for both systems isn't in the budget now. I'll just have to wait and see I guess. th8rguy 05-13-2008, 02:04 PM short answer: yes DeRFmAn 06-13-2008, 02:45 PM I ps3 is a solid buy b/c its a good system and i think 1 of only 2 blueray players that will be able to be updated to blueray 2.0 skyrone 07-20-2008, 04:51 PM If you can actually afford it, go for it. DeRFmAn 07-21-2008, 09:21 PM i just got one, honestly the load times aren't bad at all. I think it looks a bit more crisp but that may just be me. cant really compare it to my 360, cuz the 360 is broke atm. POS M$. I like the "dashboard" of the ps3 a lot more too. DarkAngelKamui 07-21-2008, 10:48 PM I'd say yes, it is worth it to get a PS3 at this point. But if you hold out for a few more months, I wouldn't be surprised to see some pretty good deals on them come the holiday seasons. It definitely wasn't worth it when it came out, but now that it has some big ticket titles already under it's belt along with a few new innovations to come later, I'd definitely consider one if you could afford it. certifiednut 07-22-2008, 02:31 AM i cant really say if it would be worth it to you, i have a wii and a 60gig ps3 and love them both, it really depends on the type of games you like to play. BATMAN 07-24-2008, 11:55 AM I'm thinking about getting a PS3. My friend got me hook on Call of Duty 4 (nguyenkhoa is the name). Also, the fact that it has Blue ray don't hurt.... aznpoopy 07-24-2008, 04:18 PM another price drop is rumored to be due its worth it if there are console exclusive games you want on ps3 or you want a combo bluray / game system if you dont care about blu ray and are playing mostly cross platform games (or you like the 360 exclusives), then obviously 360 is better |
