Divine Logic 08-09-2006, 12:59 AM ...and what would happen with society as a whole?
This is a question I've pondered for quite a while, and I'm certainly interested in our resident Biblical scholar's opinion (yzf).
Mark, although I realize that you always ensure that you never meet such hypothetical with a typed admission of plausibility, as if God would smite you for entertaining such a though even in the company of folks like myself, I would like you to do your best to answer this. You are even invited the leeway of suggesting an apocalyptic inevitability as per Biblical prophecy, if that will help absolve you from dithering to deeply with demons the likes on myself. ;)
But I am genuinely interested in your opinion.
What would happen to you and other Biblical scholars of like intellect (yeah, I'm stroking you)? Let's just say this "proof" is completely undeniable to every fiber of your intellectual core as a man. Let's suggest that it is so compelling that you would actually question the writings of the Bible.
So aside of how it would effect you personally, I want to know your take on the repercussions on society as whole, globally.
An example might be little green men visiting us from an extraterrestrial location. Combine it with some other outrageous compelling proof. (Whatever it takes to get you to answer!)
Everyone else, too...what do you think?
Do you think that wars would abruptly cease? Start?
Would people begin to relieve their pent up primal instincts and begin to act like freaky predators?
Would man collectively see that his morality throughout the ages has actually been guided by himself? (Would man "collectively" see anything?)
Strip away religion from our society in one felled swoop. ALL religions that believe in a higher power. (Mark, PLEASE! Just stop with "the One True God" thing for this, and give us insight to that magnificent intellect of yours (more stroking).
Would man become sublime after a decade, or would this scenario instill a sense of chaos in the world?
My belief is that suddenly there would be a HUGE chunk of the global population that would have unanswered questions that previously were explained by their faith(s). Perhaps after one generation, man would actually recess into a more primal, survivalist being.
What do you all think?
Divine Logic 08-09-2006, 02:08 AM Better stop, Mark. People are gonna start to think we're friends.
Couldn't indulge me? I realize that it's probably blasphemous to write or speak against the existence of God, but that doesn't discount that you entertained the idea at least enough to realize such a danger.
Look Mark, your intelligent enough to be able to answer this question without violating the rules of your faith. You seem to know it well enough, and after all, if "justification of the Lord's will/existence through argument of man's logic" is the sin of regret in this case, then I suggest you not ever tempt yourself by visiting this forum. (As I made the point before; your self esteem flourishes in a place that you believe to be filled with fools).
So say there's another, fictional world that believed in a creator and were suddenly proven it not be the case...
Divine Logic 08-09-2006, 02:11 AM I think you need to fix the title :)OH!!! What the FUCK?!!..Must be an external force acting on me.
BATMAN 08-09-2006, 09:45 AM This GOD has nothing to do with it.........
Undeniable proof eh? Think such a thing exists or perhaps more appropriately, could exist?
Imagine that this proof shows us that God is not what the Bible depicts Him as but rather as something else entirely. Think devout Christians would accept this? Or might they rationalize it as deceptions of Satan? Certainly some would be persuaded while others would become more resolute in their faith, yet the rift between religions and theologies would ultimately remain.
I suppose what I’m getting at is that nothing (save for one’s own existence) is undeniable. Thus, your hypothetical situation is an impossible one.
Divine Logic 08-09-2006, 11:19 PM ehh, fuckit.
I give up.
You're hopeless. No grain of rational thought in that head of yours. Can't even carry on a conversation without fucking it all up with scripture.
I'm done.
Tessai 08-10-2006, 04:14 AM Not a bad little excersice.
You raised a very valid point with people chalking it up to the delusions of Satan, or their religious equivalent.
I honestly believe that no matter how much proof you present, there will always be skeptics saying it didn't happen.
I think that the world would pretty much continue as is, perhaps after a little restructuring of the religions. With this new, theoretical proof, a few more religions are bound to pop up. Perhaps starting new wars.
Divine Logic 08-10-2006, 05:08 PM Tsk tsk.
Divine Logic 08-10-2006, 07:16 PM Ok, that's enough.
$100T2 08-10-2006, 10:05 PM I corrected the thread title, too.
harekrsna 04-18-2007, 11:02 PM not much
Calvin Akbar!!! (peace and blessings be upon him), I tear my shirt and throw dirt on my head as I read this. What guilt do I bear for even rolling my eyes over these words?
How in the world can there not be a God? My worldview prevents me from imagining my very existence without the existence of a Supreme Ruler of the Universe. I cannot fathom it. It is as illogical to me as seeing pigs fly.
For your sake, I will try for a moment to overcome this impossibility.
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
OK, there's no God. I am the biggest fool in the world. Morality becomes a word devoid of value except by the fools who accept it. Man reigns supreme. There is no accountability. You have no right to tell me what is wrong and what is right...
I can bear it no longer. I must return to logic.
