The fourth-grader plans to hold a rally after school Friday along with some classmates at Streams Elementary School in Upper St. Clair. The girls want to let school administrators know they don't appreciate being told their dresses are too short.
"I think I needed to say something about it," Hinkle, 10, said Wednesday. "Freedom of expression should be the style you choose."
Hinkle claims Streams Principal Claire Miller told her last fall her skirt was too short, and now that warmer weather is returning, Hinkle's friends are being told the same. The girls were told skirts must fall below the knees, Hinkle said.

Miller referred calls to Upper St. Clair School District Assistant Superintendent Terrence Kushner, who said he was unaware students and parents were upset with the principal's interpretation of the dress code.
"What could a 9- or 10-year-old wear that would be inappropriate?" said Zoe's mother, Leslie Hinkle. "These skirts have shorts sewn under them. I would never let her wear anything (provocative). She's just dressing fashionably."
The district dress code says "school officials may not impose limitations on dress unless the attire causes the disruption of the educational process or constitutes a health or safety hazard."
Decisions on whether attire is appropriate are largely left to the discretion of principals, Kushner said.
"Principals have to make this call all the time," Kushner said. "It's a judgment call on their part. Usually at the elementary level we don't deal with this."
Most administrators have a broad tolerance for what students choose to wear, said Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators Director Stinson Stroup.
"It's subject to different local standards for what's acceptable," Stroup said.
Leslie Hinkle said she buys most of her daughter's clothes at "Limited Too," a trendy juniors clothing store chain found in many malls.
Zoe Hinkle said so far she's convinced about nine of friends to join her outside the school tomorrow.
"My sign says, 'Style is Freedom,'" she said, "because freedom of expression is in the Constitution."

Allowing schools to impose dress codes doesn't violate freedom of expression, IMHO. After all, many workplaces have dresscodes. What, is this chick gonna grow up to say "Nu-uh, I can wear a miniskirt to the operating room if I want! It's in the constitution!"

I think its funny because if it was just the shorts (notice that the mom says there are shorts sewn into the skirt), it wouldn't be an issue.

Having a daughter would only be hard if you were addicted to porn. I have two cousins, both blonde, female, and very cute for their age (15 and 17). Sexual attraction is never part of the equation with someone you're related to if you fear the Lord and obey the command of the Heavenly Father. Living a God fearing life limits your ability to sin.
